pcgamer wrote a new post, Battle Princess Madelyn, the game co-created by a 7-year-old, has a new trailer, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
Last year, I spoke to Christopher Obritsch—the indie developer whose boss is his seven-year-old daughter. Battle Princess Madelyn is a retro sidescrolling Ghouls ‘N Ghosts throwback that features fantastical worlds, towering boss battles, and young Maddi Obritsch in its star role. Observe:”Battle Princess Madelyn is a game that follows the journey of a young knight in training, Madelyn, and her ghostly pet dog, Fritzy,” says developer Causal Bit Games. “They set out on a journey to save her king

pcgamer wrote a new post, Minecraft: Java Edition vs Windows 10, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
Java Edition can be played fully, complete with mods, textures, and everything else you associate with Minecraft, without paying a penny. The only issue here is we’re working with two different versions of the same game, so Java Edition can’t connect to Windows 10 servers and Windows 10 can’t connect to Java Edition servers. As Java Edition has been around since the dawn of time, it makes sense that’ll have more variety. Winner: Windows 10The Java Edition of Minecraft will always be the go-to ve

pcgamer wrote a new post, How Framed brings everything together to make great chases and escapes, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
I even took a PC press build home with me at the time, so I’ve never really thought of Framed as a mobile game. One of the nameless protagonists, the Sunglasses Guy, ‘borrows’ a bike in an early level of Framed 2. With Framed, even a momentary diversion puts me back to square one, particularly for the levels with reusable panels. I also tend to notice design more when I’m playing on PC, and this is surely a game for game designers. As an exploration of escape/chase scenes and context-driven game

pcgamer wrote a new post, Sonic the Hedgehog is getting a movie starring James Marsden, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
There is going to be a Sonic the Hedgehog movie, and James Marsden is going to star in it. It’s a live-action/animation hybrid starring the Westworld star, and while it’s unclear what role Marsden will play, it’s unlikely he’ll star as Tails. The “animation” side of the aforementioned hybrid likely means that the Sonic stars will be CGI, while Marsden will stay in the flesh world. This will be the first ever Sonic film adaptation. The film will be directed by Jeff Fowler, produced by Neal H. Mor

pcgamer wrote a new post, You know you want this mod that lets you ride giant ducks and chickens in Skyrim, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
Mounts and Followers mod, you can now ride enormous ducks, chickens, pheasants, pigeons, and other large birds around in Skyrim. As far as I can tell the giant birds don’t actually fly, as all of the mod’s images simply show them on foot. But I think there’s something almost more appealing about riding a giant duck around in Skyrim when it doesn’t take flight and flap around. Just strolling through Riften or Solitude on the back of giant duck, you know? Make sure to read the installation and loa

pcgamer wrote a new post, How would you like a 512GB RAM module in a future PC?, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
When Intel first talked about 3D XPoint Technology back in 2015, we heard claims of it reaching 1000X the performance of NAND memory. That product now has a name: Optane DC Persistent Memory, which is a mouthful, so I’m going to call it Optane DC PM. As the name implies, Optane DC PM is for the datacenter—we’re not likely to see this in desktops or laptops any time soon. The form factor looks the same as a regular DIMM, and each Optane DC PM module can hold up to 512GB. Also, note that the platf

pcgamer wrote a new post, Team Sonic Racing, a co-op driven kart racer, has a reveal trailer, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
In my insignificant opinion, Sumo Digital’s Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is the best modern kart racer, and Mario Kart 7 can get lost. So it’s great news that the same studio is developing a brand new Sonic racer in the form of Team Sonic Racing. The game will also support online and local co-operative modes, ranging Grand Prix, Exhibition mode, Time-Trial and “Team Adventure”. It’s a kart racer, you see. There are 15 playable characters, a story-driven Adventure Mode, and plenty of perf

pcgamer wrote a new post, Fallout 76: our best and worst guesses about what it actually is, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
Fallout 76, according to Kotaku’s report, is an online survival RPG, the online part being the most interesting feature considering the single-player nature of Bethesda’s past Fallout games. The teaser trailer shows the aftermath of a celebration inside Vault 76, after which the inhabitants have apparently gone back outside. I think Chris has nailed it with the settlements system, but I think Fallout 76 will add a Fallout Shelter element. Austin: Vault-Tec Workshop, but hopefully betterBethesda

pcgamer wrote a new post, Fox N Forests is a deeply authentic retro platformer, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
I say this so that when I tell you Fox N Forests is a retro game you know I’m not just using it as a synonym for “it has old-fashioned graphics.” The hook of Fox N Forests is a mechanic that lets you, as a crossbow-wielding fox named Rick, manipulate the seasons. Rupert OchsnerIt reminded me of Hollow Knight, which doesn’t even give you a double jump until a fair way in, although Fox N Forests isn’t quite so stingy. The woodland animal theme of Fox N Forests wasn’t there from the start. Fox N Fo

pcgamer wrote a new post, Black-and-white 2D action game Unworthy is out now and worth your time, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
Unworthy is a Metroidvania-style 2D action game whose grayscale world is dripping with death, decay and other wholesome things like that. I was able to dip my toes in Unworthy’s early levels, and it quickly became clear that it’s not a normal Metroidvania. Fall damage is punishing and enemies can knock you off ladders, so you have to plan your routes carefully. I’ve grown fond of the leaping sword attack you get shortly after beating the first boss. It feels like leaping off a building in Assass

pcgamer wrote a new post, Atone is a lovely-looking puzzle game inspired by Norse mythology, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
It seems New Zealand-based developer Wildboy Studios wasn’t kidding when they said it’s done entirely in hand-drawn vector art. Atone is a story-driven 2D puzzle game based on Norse mythology. A variety of puzzles dot the way forward, not to mention a big cast of warriors, animals, and spirits to talk to. Combat in Atone is something of a rhythm game by the looks of it, but with a cool twist. “Each fight is set to its own distinct musical composition that ebbs and flows with the player’s input,”

pcgamer wrote a new post, Fallout 76 rumored to be an online survival game, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
Bethesda unveiled Fallout 76 earlier today with a teaser confirming that, yes, this is a videogame that is being made. According to three sources who spoke anonymously to Kotaku, the game itself will be different from previous Fallout games too. Instead of a single-player RPG/shooter, the sources said it will be an online survival game in the vein of Rust and DayZ. The trailer itself suggests that Fallout 76 will have a certain element of post-nuclear Sim City to it. That would put Fallout 76 in

However, once per stage, the two LA teams face off. The fans love it, the players love it, and it’s putting Overwatch League up there with traditional sports as far as cross-town rivalries are concerned. I was looking down at the arena, and it literally was half purple, half green,” says Overwatch League Commissioner, Nate Nanzer. Where rivalries in traditional sports sometimes take a bitter turn, they’re met with handshakes and smiles in Overwatch League. Really, what fans have with the Battle

pcgamer wrote a new post, Fractured Lands is a Mad Max-style battle royale set to begin testing in June, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
Fractured Lands looks like a cross between Fallout, Mad Max and PUBG: A battle royale set in a broken world of derelict buildings, mile-high sandstorms, and banged-up machines driven by leather-clad scavengers with nothing to lose. It’s being developed by Unbroken Studios, an outfit made up of developers who previously worked on games from the Battlefield, Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, and God of War series, and it’s set to begin closed beta testing in June. “Rise from the ashes of a post-apocal

“Think Fallout, but on a galactic level,” says Triumph Studios CEO Lennart Sas during my hands-off demonstration of Age of Wonders: Planetfall. That’s an ambitious opener, but I’d argue that ‘Age of Wonders in a sci-fi setting’ carries similar appeal. Sas says there’s more interaction with said terrain here than in previous Age of Wonders games. “These choices are a lot more apparent than in older Age of Wonders,” adds Sas, “which was basically a flat field with obstacles that mainly impacted mo

You might not know this, but Google has an Amazon-style online store called Google Express. Google has really been pushing people to try out Express, so much so that you can get a Samsung 860 Evo SSD at a great price. The 500GB Evo 860 normally goes for $129.99. The only catch with the FREEMINI code is that your order has to be over $125, but luckily, the 860 Evo is $129.99. You can buy the 860 Evo from Google Express here.

That might not always be the case, however, and for users who game on the go, Samsung is now mass producing the first-ever 32GB DDR4 SO-DIMM memory modules. With these new modules, Samsung is specifically targeting enthusiast gaming laptops. In addition to doubling the capacity, Samsung’s 32GB modules are 11 percent faster and 39 percent more energy efficient. “A 64GB laptop configured with two 32GB DDR4 modules consumes less than 4.6 watts (W) in active mode and less than 1.4W when idle. pcgamer wrote a new post, HP’s upgraded Omen 15 laptop highlights a bevy of new gaming products, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
Kicking off its new lineup for gamers is an upgraded Omen 15 laptop. On the graphics front, the Omen 15 can handle up to a GeForce GTX 1070 with Max-Q, with GTX 1050 Ti as the entry point. One of the things HP is pushing with its newest Omen 15 laptop is upgradeability, at least as it pertains to storage and RAM. The Omen 15 laptop will be available on July 29 starting at $979.99. To go along with a new keyboard, HP introduced a couple of gaming mice, including the Omen Reactor shown above.
