pcgamer wrote a new post, 10 of the best RTS campaigns, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
Let’s celebrate the qualities of a great singleplayer real-time strategy campaigns by picking out some of the best ever made. Battle RealmsOften when we discuss advanced combat systems in RTS, games like Dawn of War, Men of War, Company of Heroes, or WarCraft 3 come up. Liquid Entertainment’s 2001 RTS Battle Realms deserves a prominent seat at this table. Karan S’Jet and the Mothership have become iconic characters, and the game has an emotional weight I haven’t experienced in another RTS game.

pcgamer wrote a new post, Space Hulk: Tactics echoes tabletop Warhammer and XCOM-style warfare, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
Billed as a “faithful adaptation” of the titular Warhammer 40K board game, Space Hulk: Tactics has released its first overview trailer. In singleplayer, you’ll choose between either the Blood Angels Space Marine Terminators or the alien Genestealers—the latter of whom players can command for the first time in the Space Hulk series. As per its tabletop roots, players are granted customisation options for “every limb, joint and weapon” as they “choose the exact look of the units in [their] roster.

Found scattered around the map in various locations, Shopping Carts can be pushed around or ridden as a passenger—both in pairs or on your lonesome. Shopping Carts are exclusive to Fortnite’s Battle Royale variant, and, while they look something like this in my mind, they actually look like the following in practice. Elsewhere, Battle Royale introduces new UI features that let players track Challenges in-match, and the game’s ‘Self-Service Cosmetic Returns’ feature has been reactivated. On the S

Last month, I met the GTA 5 modder bringing The Avengers to Los Santos. JulioNIB’s esteemed Grand Theft Auto projects include Ghost Rider, The Flash, Iron Man, Dragon Ball Z and The Incredible Hulk—the latter of which he’s now upgraded to devastating effect. Following the super villain’s recent foray into Fortnite, Julio has also brought Thanos to San Andreas. Chris first wrote about JulioNIB’s GTA 5 Hulk mod back in 2015. SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Classics has received a new update, ushering in a bunch of new features well worth checking out. The first of these is VR support: you can now play Phantasy Star in VR, though the experience is about inhabiting a retro-themed bedroom where a ye olde CRT monitor displays the game, rather than inhabiting the game itself. Two-player online multiplayer is now supported across all titles that have previously supported local multiplayer, so you’ll be able to team up for the l

pcgamer wrote a new post, Re-Legion’s first trailer showcases cyber-religious RTS gameplay, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
Re-Legion, the cyberpunk RTS about recruiting people into a religious cult and convincing them to fight and die to support your messianic ambitions, will be out this fall, publisher 1C announced today. A new “announcement teaser” has also been turned loose, which is a little bit strange since the game was actually announced back in January. I believe this is the first Re-Legion gameplay video, though, or at least the first one we’ve seen around here, so we’ll give that a pass. Re-Legion follows

Active Shooter, the school shooting FPS that caused an uproar when it appeared on Steam last week, has been removed from the platform, and both the developer and publisher—Revived Games and Acid, respectively—responsible for the game have been banned from the platform. “This developer and publisher is, in fact, a person calling himself Ata Berdiyev, who had previously been removed last fall when he was operating as ‘[bc]Interactive’ and ‘Elusive Team’,” a Valve rep explained. pcgamer wrote a new post, Door Kickers: Action Squad is like a two-player 2D Rainbow Six Siege, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
It’s Door Kickers: Action Squad, and it’s out now on Steam Early Access . Where Door Kickers was all about carefully executing SWAT maneuvers and rescuing hostages, Door Kickers: Action Squad is a 2D side-scroller that feels more like Broforce. It could hardly be more different from the original game, but Action Squad is still a heck of a lot of fun. I had fun playing on my own, but Action Squad really benefits from the inclusion of local and online co-op. It feels a lot like Rainbow Six Siege i

A big box of Arma is now up for grabs at Humble Bundle, and it’s a little bit different than the Humble Arma Bundle that turned up in 2017. For one thing, the title is slightly expanded: This is the Humble Arma 2018 Bundle. And for another, there’s a little bit more to it. For $1, you’ll get Arma: Cold War Assault, Arma: Gold Edition, and Arma Tactics. Funds raised by the Humble Arma 2018 Bundle will go to support the American Red Cross, a charity that developer Bohmemia Interactive has previous

The new game will offer “large-scale combined arms battles with infantry, armored vehicles, and drones,” and of course there will also be a separate battle royale mode called Recon. World War 3 is expected to launch in early access later this year, and The Farm 51 says it will commit to “community driven development” once it’s live. “We want to invite you, the players, to take part in the common effort of making World War 3 the game you always wanted to play.” It also seems very ambitious, which

City building is a perennial theme for tabletop game designers, so when Paradox Interactive announced it was going into board games it was obvious that Cities: Skylines would have to be one of them. An image of the Cities: Skylines board game prototype. As it was I’d call it a second or third modern board game to learn, not a first. Of all the board games Paradox showed off in their licensed line, it’s clear that from choice of designer to style of design, Cities: Skylines would be the one that’

The base configuration has an 8th-generation Intel Core i5-8300H processor, 8GB of DDR4 memory, and a GTX 1050 Ti. For storage, you get a 1TB 5400rpm hard drive with 8GB of SSD cache. The Hungering Deep, the first content update for the multiplayer pirate adventure Sea of Thieves, is now live. Rare dropped a developer update video to coincide with the release of The Hungering Deep, but like the Sea of Thieves website itself it doesn’t say too much about what’s actually in store. “We’re trying something a little bit different with our time-limited campaign, and with having to discover this AI threat that we’ve put into the world. You’re not going to find a 2TB solid state drive for $80, not unless you stumble across a shady deal that is most likely too good to be true. Likewise, you’re not going to find an $80 hard drive that offers the speed of an SSD. However, Seagate’s 2TB FireCuda Gaming SSHD does attempt to offer the best of both worlds, and it’s on sale at Amazon today for $79.99. If you’re not familiar with SSHDs, the trick with these storage devices is they supplement the mechanical storage with a chunk of NAND f

Turns out, I was right: I recently played Epic Tavern, a management sim about running a medieval tavern and coordinating parties of adventurers. Luckily, I don’t have to wait any longer, because Moonlighter is out today on Steam , GOG and Humble for $20. For those who missed the boat: Moonlighter is part top-down action RPG and part shopkeeping sim. It’s kind of like Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale , but with better combat and streamlined shopkeeping. pcgamer wrote a new post, Great moments in PC gaming: The Dark Carnival level in Blood, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 5 months ago
Great moments in PC gaming are short, bite-sized celebrations of some of our favorite gaming memories. Your typical 90s shooter, except you’re out to kill the dark god Tchernobog, can use a voodoo doll as a weapon, and you’re an undead former cult leader. Not many games start off by letting you chuck entire sticks of dynamite around, quoting old horror movies as you go. Encountering it was a balloon-popping journey into charnel house whimsy that, like Duke Nukem 3D, really helped sell what we co

Depending on your interpretation, you can do exactly that with Asus’ new ROG Aura Terminal, a standalone RGB lighting control box that supports a whole bunch of LEDs. Asus calls this Halo lighting, and along with the controller, unveiled it at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year. Dubbed Halo, this effect uses four addressable RGB strips affixed to the back edges of your monitor. The reactive lighting enhances immersion, especially in colorful games like Overwatch, elevating the Aura

At one time a premium amenity, tempered glass is now commonly found on cases, including several sub-$100 models. Cooler Master’s new MasterCase H500M doesn’t hit that price point, but it does go all-out with tempered glass, with the front, top, and both side panels made of glass. Cooler Master also includes a non-RGB 140mm fan in the rear of the case. According to Cooler Master, airflow doesn’t suffer a ton if opting for the glass front panel. The mesh vents wrap from the side of the panel to th
