  • Early Access racing combat game Grip , inspired by and made by some of the same developers as ’90s classic Rollcage, will be released in the autumn, developer Caged Element has announced. Its Kickstarter campaign failed in 2015 but that didn’t stop it zooming into Early Access in 2016, where it’s garnered “very positive” reviews from Steam users . Its 15 vehicles go obscenely fast—up to 767 mph, to be exact—and they’re loaded with a variety of weapons. At launch, it’ll have 19 tracks from “a var

  • Before the actual thing comes along and breaks our hearts, let’s indulge ourselves in some daydreaming: What do you wish they’d announce at E3 this year? Bo Moore: Dragon Age: Inquisition 2I know I’m in the minority, but I loved Dragon Age: Inquisition. BioWare dropped the ball on Mass Effect Andromeda, so hopefully whenever we get a new Dragon Age it won’t fall prey to the same pitfalls. Phil Savage: Dragon Age 2-IISure, Bo, Dragon Age: Inquisition was good. But did Dragon Age 2 have a ton of p

  • Image courtesy Tom’s HardwareEarlier this week, Wes wrote up Intel’s demonstration of a future 28-core enthusiast CPU that should launch later this year. There was nothing particularly shocking about the reveal, consider Intel already has 28-core Xeon Platinum chips. Intel showed the 28-core chip running at 5.0GHz, with all 28 cores and 56 threads loaded. The fallout from Intel’s 28-core enthusiast CPU demonstration has been interesting, but this was a publicity stunt and not something most user

  • It didn’t do much to communicate the most interesting ideas in BF5, which include an overhauled revive system and new squad features. If they’re not Medics, they won’t be able to revive teammates outside their squad, and their revive animations will last longer. We could already spawn on our squadmates in Battlefield, so squad wipes were already important—does being able to revive a squadmate make that big of a difference? It seems that Battlefield 5 is about squad play more than Battlefield 1 i

  • Earlier this week, the first “in-engine cinematic” for Total War: Three Kingdoms introduced Cao Cao, a leader with a talent for grand speeches and strategy. Today, we’ve got a new gameplay trailer that demonstrates what he’s capable of in a fight. He’s one of the greatest warriors of the era but he’s isolated from his allies, and the master strategist Cao Cao sees an opportunity to eliminate him before his power becomes too great. Laying siege to the city, Cao Cao smashes the walls, then launche

  • The fourth and final playable hero in Overill’s The Walking Dead is Heather, a kindergarten teacher turned hardened survivor who’s introduced in yet another deeply unhappy trailer that’s also somehow even more brutal than the previous three. It’s interesting (and well-established in the Walking Dead world) that the most dangerous threat to survivors isn’t the hordes of undead, but other survivors: Fellow humans who won’t think twice about killing you to take your stuff. I had actually hoped that

  • A listing on the Brazil Advisory Rating Board that appeared in February pointed to the release of New Gundam Breaker on PC. That was confirmed in March when Bandai Namco announced a launch date of June 22 for PS4 and, “for the first time for a Gundam game,” PC. The PS4 version will still launch on schedule, but the PC version has been pushed back to the summer. “In order to deliver the highest quality experience for the players, Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe have decided that New Gundam Brea

  • There’s an eerie feeling that settles in when you approach the booth of cooling company Noctua on the Computex show floor. All Noctua really cares about is cooling, which has paid off with its latest fan design, the NF-A12. Case in point: probably the most exciting upcoming product at Noctua’s booth this year is a new CPU cooler, the NH-U12. It was set up against a dual tower 140mm cooler that dwarfed it in size. The new CPU cooler, the NH-U12, will cost around $100, and should be out by the end

  • Just a day after Valve announced a new ‘anything goes’ policy for Steam—simplistically, as long as a game is not illegal or “trolling,” it will be allowed—it has removed AIDS Simulator, ISIS Simulator, Suicide Simulator, Asset Flip Simulator, and Triggering Simulator from the platform. Even so, it seems likely that the games would have been taken down under the new guidelines, had they been in place. “In addition, the developer had been involved in numerous misrepresentations, copyright violatio

Besides, there’s not much to quibble about if you’re only paying $148.74, which is the price after coupon for an Adata SU650 at Rakuten today. • I’m still impressed by the power in the diminutive Raspberry Pi , a flexible hobbyist PC that can be used to run emulators or a home server or other creative projects. But the Raspberry Pi looks practically gargantuan next to the Pico PI225-GK, which I checked out at Zotac’s booth at Computex 2018. This is actually the second generation of the mini PC, which is about the dimensions of a half dozen credit cards stacked together. But I was impressed by how much of a genuine PC the Pico is. Wi-Fi,

  • MSI unveiled a couple of new laptops at Computex, both of which are svelte machines with up to an Intel 8th generation Core i7 processor and discrete graphics. There are two main models, the GF63 8RC with a GeForce GTX 1050 GPU inside, and the GF63 8RD with an upgraded GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. This is more of a business machine, though it does have a GeForce MX150 GPU inside for some lightweight gaming. • Last year, we learned Bandai Namco and Dontnod were developing a new narrative adventure game. It promised “AAA quality” and plenty of investigation—à la Life Is Strange—from a team separate to the one then working on Vampyr. The project now has a name: Twin Mirror. “With no memory of the night before and an ominously bloody shirt as his only clues, it’s time for Sam to find the truth.” With that, Twin Mirror is billed as a “story-driven investigation game”.

  • Perhaps this is unfair, but I associate the Dead or Alive beat ’em series with scantily clad female characters—be that in an official or unofficial capacity. I also understand its DoA 5: Last Round PC variant was a bit of a disaster at launch 2015. As told by IGN, Dead or Alive 6 boasts a new engine that aims to pretty-up the existing formula.
