Excellent deck-building roguelike Slay the Spire has now sold one million copies, developer Mega Crit Games said this week as it unveiled a new game mode that allows you to craft custom dungeon runs. Custom mode, Slay the Spire’s third game mode, offers a variety of modifiers to switch on and off that will drastically change your next run. You can jump into the custom dungeon yourself, or share your options with others for them to try. Switch on all the difficult ones and you’ll create a near-im

pcgamer wrote a new post, Epic will not reinstate Fortnite’s Playground mode until next week, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 4 months ago
Fortnite’s time-limited Playground mode, which was added this week and then promptly removed because of matchmaking errors, will not return until next week, Epic Games has announced. Later the same day, however, Epic disabled the mode, citing “issues with our matchmaking services”. It’s been trying to get the mode back up and running over the past few days, but now it won’t be playable until next week. We’re still unable to resolve issues preventing the launch of the Playground LTM. Fortnite’s S

pcgamer wrote a new post, Sea of Thieves adds exploding skeletons event for a limited time, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 4 months ago
Sea of Thieves’ latest time-limited event adds skeletons that will rush towards you, light the fuse on the gunpowder keg they’re hauling around, and blow you to smithereens if you give them half a chance. Rare wants you to kill the “Gunpowder Skeletons” in interesting ways, as senior producer Drew Stevens explains in the video above. You’ll have a new way to kill them, too: you can now light gunpowder kegs yourself by left-clicking, which will start a five second countdown. The aim of the event

pcgamer wrote a new post, What’s the most underrated game on PC?, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 4 months ago
What’s the most underrated game on PC? Before Hot Date they hoovered, pooped, cleaned up mess and vanished off to work for hours at a time. Hot Date opened up huge new downtown areas where they could meet other Sims and, with a bit of luck, find a partner. For some reason Hot Date never seemed to receive the credit it deserved for its novelty and ambition at the time. The art has aged well and the difficulty curve is spot-on, but what I love most about Giana Sisters is the music.

THE HIGHSJames Davenport: That fool hamsterI’ll never admit that I love Overwatch’s newest hero Wrecking Ball, a goofy-but-deadly hamster that rolls around in a transforming war ball. I’ll also never admit that Wrecking Ball is cute and dumb and the most interesting hero Overwatch has seen in years. But I will watch these Wrecking Ball GIFs on repeat for the entire weekend. Plus I would actually like to finish Mass Effect: Andromeda’s story, if I can find a way to fight through the open world si

pcgamer wrote a new post, Evolution: The Video Game is slowly morphing into something quite promising, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 4 months ago
In Evolution players create and evolve species of creatures, attempting to keep them fed, expanding their populations, and trying to starve out the competition. They play those same cards, from their limited hand, to add food to the shared watering hole. As opponents evolve new capabilities, you evolve counters to them. Most of the game is animated and felt alive, with food cubes floating back and forth across the watering hole. The demo also included a snappy guided tutorial with a little explo

pcgamer wrote a new post, Watch a cartoon Geralt hunt a griffin in this Samurai Jack-inspired short, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 4 months ago
Early noughties Cartoon Network classic Samurai Jack received a long-awaited fifth season last year, some 12 years after its fourth finished airing. To put it simply, Samurai Jack is about a man with a sword fighting for what he thinks is right, and in that sense it’s quite similar to The Witcher. At least, that’s the only explanation I can think of for why Mashed felt the need to combine the two in an animated short, but after seeing their “Samurai Witcher” cartoon, I’m certainly not complainin

But while I agree with some of his impressions, I think it’s important to note the ways in which Battlefield 5 improves on Battlefield 1—and there are a few good ones. Here’s what I like so far about DICE’s lesson-learning:SpottingThe sunsetting of the Dorito hunter era couldn’t be more welcome. One of Battlefield 5’s biggest and most exciting changes seems quite direct in killing off its lineage icon-itis. Cyan announced in March that it would release updated versions of all five games in the Myst series later this year—a pretty big deal for fans because Myst 3: Exile and Myst 4: Revelation been out of reach for years. Today it finally happened, as both of those games, along with all the others in the series, are now available on GOG. GOG is actually involved in the updating process, and the release of the games for purchase on the platform was part of the campaign pitch. This gets all the existin

Localization specialist Xseed Games announced the PC port of Ys: Memories of Celceta earlier this year, promising a summer release. According to Celceta’s newly minted Steam page , Xseed was right on the money: the long-awaited PC port is now scheduled to release next month on July 25. Barring a few buggy blunders—like the repeatedly delayed and ultimately terrible port of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana—Xseed’s PC ports have generally been pretty good, and Celceta is at least checking the right boxe

But to distract ourselves until the inevitable end, a new 2D battle royale game set in the Cyanide and Happiness universe is on the way. I played some for myself in a closed alpha test yesterday, and while I’m definitely not worthy of entry into heaven, Rapture Rejects needs plenty of work before getting there itself. Smart positioning is arguably more important than aim in battle royale, and to have that stripped from Rapture Rejects can make some rounds especially demeaning. Rapture Rejects pl

Mothergunship is a bullet-hell FPS about building ridiculous guns and using them to blast hordes of aliens back to whatever distant weird world they came from. A demo showcasing the “Gun Crafting Range” was released in May, and now co-developers Grip Digital and Tower of Guns studio Terrible Posture Games have announced that the full release will take place on July 17. Shooting stuff is great but the big hook here, as both the trailer and the demo make clear, is the gun crafting. The full versio

Perhaps because of that ruling, Electronic Arts has told Eurogamer that it will disclose the odds of FIFA Ultimate Team packs in FIFA 19. “For Ultimate Team, when you buy a pack you know what you are getting. Nonetheless, Holt said FIFA’s Ultimate Team packs are different than games like Star Wars Battlefront 2, because Ultimate Team is a separate, optional, and more-skill-based mode: “You may have a higher-rated team than me in FIFA Ultimate Team and I can still beat you,” he said. Overwatch’s new hero, Wrecking Ball, is a cute little hamster piloting a giant spherical mech. Wrecking Ball’s entire ability kit is pretty interesting, but to the surprise of no one, players have zeroed in on his grappling hook and are now racing to break every map in Overwatch. Something big is happening this Saturday in Fortnite, and it’s only happening once according to Epic Games.
