pcgamer wrote a new post, Burnout successor Danger Zone 2 is out now, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 3 months ago
Released last year, Danger Zone was a modern remake of Burnout 3’s fabulous Crash Mode. For some bizarre reason, the entire game was framed as a virtual reality simulation, and yet you could only drive one car. In Burnout, the slightest scrape of your bodywork against another car would trigger a crash, whereas Danger Zone 2 appears to let you shunt and slam a whole bunch of other vehicles before committing to full-on carnage. Danger Zone 2 also makes a weird commitment to realism. Danger Zone 2

pcgamer wrote a new post, What was the first game you upgraded your PC to play?, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 3 months ago
When I finally got a desktop PC the first game I installed was Dota 2, and gosh was it an eye-opening experience! This kicked off my second era of PC gaming as a kid. Wes Fenlon: C&C: Tiberian SunThe first game I remember being heartbroken I couldn’t play was Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun. And if you want to build a great gaming PC for a third of that, you can. PC gaming has never been more accessible, and the vagaries of himem.sys and emm386.sys are thankfully far in the past.

pcgamer wrote a new post, Episode 3 of The Council arrives later this month, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 3 months ago
The third episode of neoclassical narrative adventure The Council will arrive on July 24, Focus Home Interactive has announced. Titled “Ripples”, the third episode will continue the story of Louis de Richet, who belongs to an 18th Century secret society whose members include George Washington and Napoleon Bonaparte. Its heavy emphasis on dialogue and player-choice is similar to DontNod’s Life is Strange, only with less teenage angst and more powdered wigs. Using this system, Richet can attempt t

pcgamer wrote a new post, All this time, Aliens: Colonial Marines’ stupid AI may have been caused by a single typo, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 3 months ago
As Chris Thursten noted in our review, the AI of the aliens was especially bad. At the time, he said, “aliens pop out of vents and pop back in again, get stuck on the ceiling, fall off walls and run in circles.” Well, it turns out the game’s laughably stupid xenomorphs may have been caused by a typo—more specifically, a single letter mucking up the game’s code. After confirming the code does indeed have a typo, I tried the fix for myself to find out. As Chris said in his review, they’re all over

pcgamer wrote a new post, This week’s highs and lows in PC gaming, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 3 months ago
I’ve also got a vacation planned for late July into early August, where I will step away from the PC and technology for two whole weeks. My favorite thing about PC gaming is finding those communities that stay dedicated to their favorite games and play them, well, forever. PT For PC was made using assets from Konami’s original demo, and we predicted something like this might happen. Like, I’m only a couple of hours in but I want to write about it on PC Gamer all day long kind of good. I do that

pcgamer wrote a new post, Fallout 4 meets Silent Hill 2 in horror mod Claustrophobia, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 3 months ago
“After receiving a lead to a condemned apartment complex on the outskirts of West Roxbury, you are compelled to visit it.” You probably wouldn’t guess it, but that’s the setup for a Fallout 4 mod (OK, sure, West Roxbury kinda gives it away, but play along). It’s called Claustrophobia , and it’s a little house of horrors inspired by Silent Hill 2 and Resident Evil 1 built entirely within Fallout 4. Claustrophobia creator Supernath97 describes the mod as “a fan homage to the cancelled Silent Hills

pcgamer wrote a new post, Riot releases Dark Star Cho’gath League of Legends skin to raise funds for charity, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 3 months ago
Riot Games connected with the Make-A-Wish Foundation last year to grant a wish to a teenager suffering from osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, who wanted to visit Riot headquarters and create a skin for Cho’Gath, his favorite League of Legends character. From that collaboration, Dark Star Cho’Gath was born, and now Riot is selling skins, icons, emotes, and bundles featuring the champion, with 100 percent of proceeds going to charity. Before his visit to the studio, he “brainstormed” with Riot

Update: Dauntless developer Phoenix Labs offered an update on the Godhand laser bug, promising a proper fix in an upcoming update. But for the past few weeks, players have been getting around the Godhand’s limitations using a simple bug in Dauntless’ controls which makes the laser infinite. Dauntless developer Phoenix Labs released a patch earlier this week intended to fix the Godhand bug, among other improvements. “Slayers will no longer get stuck in Godhand beam animations and cannot sustain i

Thirty-five years ago, Penguin published The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, the first in the enormously popular Fighting Fantasy series of gamebooks. Penned by Games Workshop founders Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone, Fighting Fantasy established the choose-your-own adventure genre, introducing readers and roleplayers alike to a whole new way of being hoisted upon their own petards. Last year, Nomad games launched Fighting Fantasy Legends, a top-down, point-and-click PC adaptation of the first th

You can now pre-order, and soon play, a Warhammer 40,000 themed Monopoly set. That’s right, the grim darkness of actually playing a game of Monopoly is now on direct par with the grim darkness of the far future, in which there is only war. The game will come complete with little metal Warhammer equivalents of the classic Monopoly objects, each aligned to a specific Warhammer 40k faction. I will say that changing the little metal dog to a Tyranid Ripper, and the top hat to a Space Marine helmet,

pcgamer wrote a new post, Screw Lovecraft, let’s talk about other horror universes games could explore, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 3 months ago
But despite his widespread posthumous fame and contributions to horror, we’re tired of videogames’ love affair with Lovecraft. Here’s just a few horror universes set forth by our favorite creators that future games could pull from. I can’t think of a manga artist that consistently conjures up the grotesque and surreal without relying heavily on horror tropes. The more famous setting now, though, is Area X, which probably lends itself better to a horror game. Wells. While many of his books are ver

pcgamer wrote a new post, The Crew 2 is an unremarkable PC port of a lackluster racer, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 3 months ago
This is why the framerate cap is so damn frustrating. The above gallery has 4k screenshots of each preset, along with maximum and minimum quality. The recommended specs are for running The Crew 2 at 1080p using the high preset, with a 60fps framerate. I’ve tested starting from 4k at max and moving down in resolution until the GPUs hit the framerate cap. It turns out that The Crew 2 is basically a non-event when it comes to CPU requirements, thanks once again to the framerate cap.

Obsidian has announced that the Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire expansion Beast of Winter will be out on August 2. The DLC, according to PCGamesN, will send players off to an island populated by worshippers of Rymrgand, the titular “Beast of Winter” and “god of collapse.” His manifestation has brought a supernatural killing frost to the island that threatens all of Eora, the world in which Pillars of Eternity is set. Despite that chilling setup—or because of it—executive producer Alec Frey said

PT for PC, the recreation of the famed Silent Hills demo that took on an all-too-brief life of its own a few years ago, has been shut down. “I got a phone call that I was expecting at about 5 am from someone who worked at Konami. He essentially told me that he was very sorry for being the bearer of bad news, but I would have to take down my remake,” Qimsar wrote. The Konami rep told Qimsar that PT on PC is very popular around the studio, and that as compensation it would send him some merchandis

Newegg continues to unload Samsung’s 860 Evo drives on Ebay at tantalizing discounts. It fell even further to $237.99 on Amazon, where it’s been since the second half of June. Now it’s at $199.99 on Newegg’s Ebay page, which is a fantastic price for this SSD. We consider the 860 Evo series of the best SSD lines for gaming because it’s the

Activision and Treyarch have revealed the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 multiplayer beta schedule, which will in fact see two different test sessions held: A “multiplayer beta” in August, and then a Blackout battle royale beta in September. In both cases, the beta will end at 10 am PT/1 pm ET on August 13. Full details on the Black Ops 4 beta are a

A 4X strategy game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. It’s more relaxing than a Warhammer 40,000 turn-based 4X strategy game should be. Gladius – Relics of War is a solidly made strategy game, but a bland one. Fans of hex-based Warhammer 40,000 games might remember the challenging Rites of War, which called back to meatier wargames like Panzer General 2. I wouldn’t mind the game’s simplicity if it captured more of the spectacle of Warhammer 40,000.
