Netflix, which has been making some forays into gaming, will be at this year’s E3 to host a panel and drop some game announcements. And it’s already off to a fine start, nailing the traditional E3 awkwardness by making the announcement via a chat with the E3 Twitter account. pic.twitter.com/UFBUCAs7QrMay 13, 2019So we might see some more games inspired by Netflix shows revealed at E3, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we heard more about its interactive streaming ambitions, too. The impressive File://maniac is a tantalising demo, proof-of-concept and pilot episode for an episodic series in development. On the surface, it’s a point and click adventure game that asks you, a detective, to stop a serial killer. That’s the actual game folder on your actual computer, File://maniac somehow knowing when you’ve deleted, copied or altered certain files in its directory. It’s just a shame the game never lets go of your hand, so you can figure out the puzzles for yourself. In every

On a recent earnings call, publisher Take-Two noted that sales of GTA 5 have outperformed so far this year, while GTA Online continues to grow, with earnings exceeding expectations. The open-world caper has nearly hit 110 million sales, which is an absurdly high number, but perhaps not all that surprising given how it never seems to leave the Steam top sellers list. It’s hoping the same will happen with the more disappointing Red Dead Online. Red Dead Redemption 2 has already raked up over 24 mi

Before that, you may remember that, at CES 2017, Razer made a splash with its Project Valerie triple-screen gaming laptop. Now, following in the footsteps of its competitors, HP is making its own dual-screen gaming laptop, namely the HP Omen X 2S. Nevertheless, beyond its primary value proposition, on paper the HP Omen X 2S boast some mighty impressive specs. No matter how you slice it, the Omen X 2S has native G-Sync in each of its many configurations. For that reason, it is technically the fir

Rage 2 system requirementsThe official Rage 2 system requirements are pretty reasonable, though no mention is made of target performance. More noteworthy is that even at minimum quality, performance only improves by around 50 percent. Low quality runs about 50 percent faster than ultra quality, medium quality runs about 20-25 percent faster, and high quality is virtually the same (1-2 percent faster) as ultra quality. Rage 2 offers FXAA (slight improvement for almost no performance hit), TAA (te

Microsoft and Mojang are marking the occasion with, among other things, a fancy new map that’s free for all players to download. It’s a theme park and museum, put together by the builders at BlockWorks to take you on a trip through the game’s history. Walking through static exhibits wouldn’t be very Minecraft, so this museum is interactive, complete with rides, puzzles and Easter eggs. Mojang has teased some Easter eggs, though I confess I haven’t been looking too hard. I’ve missed a lot of upda

Outward is both a hardcore fantasy RPG and a game where you can never die. It’s an unusual combination of fiddly and forgiving, and it’s proven a hit with players. Guillaume Boucher-Vidal, CEO of the indie studio responsible for it, Nine Dots, recently gave an interview to Gamasutra about how Outward was made, explaining how a small team was able to create an open-world RPG without needing to crunch. Early in development they discovered environments were taking longer to craft than expected, but

Originally an Xbox One launch exclusive, Ryse: Son of Rome hit Steam in 2014. Originally revealed as Codename: Kingdoms during Microsoft’s 2010 E3 conference, the Crytek developed game was later revealed to be a Kinect-only Xbox 360 title. After a long period of absence, Microsoft re-announced it in 2013 as a third-person action game for Xbox One. The video embedded below is courtesy of Prototype Preservation, a channel which acquired a copy of the build from Twitter user @cheese93007 (thanks Eu

For the last two years indie publisher Devolver Digital have been presenting their own conference during but outside of E3. Sometimes they even show games, with trailers for My Friend Pedro, Metal Wolf Chaos, and Scum appearing last year. Devolver have announced via Twitter that they and presumably Nina will be back for E3 in 2019. The Devolver Digital Cinematic Universe is starting to get complicated. Werewolf: The Apocalypse was the second tabletop RPG in the World of Darkness setting, a follow-up to Vampire: The Masquerade. While Vampire gave us two videogames so far with a third on the way, we’ve been waiting for a Werewolf game for a while. Most recently it’s been announced that Earthblood will be shown at E3 2019. Early word is that it’ll be an action-RPG about an exiled werewolf returning to help his clan, and will involve managing a rage characteristic. Werewolf: The Apocalypse—Earthbl

Last year, a PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 appeared on the profile of a programmer who had worked for Rockstar Leeds until 2016 and was quickly removed. Now, the profile of a former physics programmer who worked for Rockstar Toronto until 2016 also has a listing for Read Dead Redemption 2 that mentions PC. Nan Ma worked at Rockstar for six years and five months and his profile also lists credits for Max Payne 3 and Grand Theft Auto 5. Now he’s the CEO and founder of a VR studio called Futu

To do that, a new “Super Private Browsing” mode would tap into the Tor network to offer users a level of anonymity, in addition to clearing out cookies and cache. It’s called Icognito Mode in Chrome, Private Browsing in Firefox, and InPrivate Browsing in both Edge and Internet Explorer. What private browsi

Binding of Isaac creator Edmund McMillen says his next game, the turn-based, cardboard-themed dungeon crawler The Legend of Bum-bo, will be out this year, along with the final DLC for The Binding of Isaac itself. In a tweet about “general updates,” McMillen gave a typically pithy rundown of his plans for the rest of the year. The Legend of Bumbo should launch toward the end of the year’s third quarter, with The Binding of Isaac: Repentance coming late in the fourth. general updates: The Legend o

If you’re in the market for a high refresh rate monitor, today might be your day. One of Dell’s FreeSync 144Hz displays, the generically-named “S2419HGF,” has dropped to $149.99 on Amazon. The Dell S2419HGF is a 24-inch 1080p panel, with FreeSync support and a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz. Your mileage may vary, but regardless, the high refresh rate will definitely work out of the box with any AMD graphics card. Titan Quest is nearly 13 years old, but it just got a new expansion this week. In Titan Quest Atlantis, heroes meet an explorer who is in search of the legendary city of Atlantis, and set sail across the Mediterranean to find the Diary of Herakles, which is said to contain the key to the hidden realm. The new storyline can be played solo, or in co-op as a group of up to six players. THQ Nordic says Atlantis gives Titan Quest a bit of a visual upgrade by adding options for color grading and SSAO.

Fallout 76 recently introduced a new system that lets players run automated shops in their camps. The trouble is, there’s a ten percent fee on every sale made from player-run shops, and as our pals over at GamesRadar have discovered, that’s rubbing some Fallout 76 players the wrong way. Fallout 76 players are constantly generating caps within the gameworld, but there wasn’t a way for caps to leave the system. The sales tax acts as a counter-inflationary force by pulling currency—caps—out of the

Rage 2 looks set to be a wacky and comedic shooting game, if its launch trailer is accurate. There’s lots of excessive swearing, tonnes of fashionable retro-futuristic fluoro-purple, and gallons upon gallons of spilled blood. And in case this trailer doesn’t drive home how zany Rage 2 promises to be, the game has a cheat that adds NBA Jam voiceover guy to the game (but only if you pre-order!). More importantly, Rage 2 will crib Doom’s famous BFG-9000. Here’s the trailer:
