  • However, looking at the layout of the Scorpio Engine, the proportion of the space occupied by the GPU dwarfs the CPU area. Microsoft’s GPU command processor implementation of DX12 has provided big wins for Xbox One developers, and it’s set for expansion in Scorpio. The GPU’s L2 cache gets a 4x increase, which Goossen says is there for targeting 4K performance. So latency is higher but in terms of aggregate performance, the improved bandwidth and improved GPU performance means we don’t hit any is

  • After months of relentless ‘feedback’ from the userbase, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is finally available for Xbox One users via the wonder of backwards compatibility. And this Xbox One re-release also benefits from being built upon the finest last-gen version of the game available. Once into the game, performance goes straight for 60 frames per second and never lets go. Performance is very similar to the multiplayer mode overall with a nice stable 60 frames per second throughout most of the match

  • So far we’ve seen the machine cope admirably with Unreal Engine 4 and Unity, and we were curious to see how the Traveller’s Tales Lego engine holds up. Lego City Undercover is actually a four-year-old Wii U release, recently revamped with the latest version of the Lego engine and now available on PS4, Xbox One – and of course, Switch. Lego City Undercover’s 2017 revamp also gives us some indication of how far the engine technology has moved on in the last four years. Switch falls behind owing to

  • Star Wars Battlefront 2 features a single player campaign that picks up right at the end of The Return of the Jedi. Iden will allow fans to experience Star Wars from a brand new perspective, that of a heroic figurehead for the Empire. The multiplayer will span the entire Star Wars universe as we know it today. That means players will have access to weapons, ships and gadgets from the prequel, original and new Star Wars trilogies. Star Wars Battlefront 2 is scheduled for release on the 17th of No

  • It took three years to build, but when Bayonetta emerged in 2009, it showed Kamiya in a very different mood. Bayonetta, a witch in weaponised heels (a pistol is strapped to each stiletto) streaks across the screen like a jutting spinning top. Bayonetta in her secretary-cum-sex-worker attire reflects the broader character of a game that discards the dark, dry anime tone of Kamiya’s earlier work for something more irreverent. To a point the characterisation counterbalances the sexist overtones: Ba

  • Despite lackluster launch sales, EA hasn’t thrown in the towel yet for Titanfall 2. Developer Respawn revealed its DLC plans for the highly acclaimed shooter between now and the end of June and there’s a healthy stock of free content coming. That’s the major stuff, but a series of updates will add more minor upgrades, like an increased level cap to 100. There will also be free trials here and there, though the schedule for these has yet to be announced. Titanfall 2 received top marks from Euroga

  • And yet, for the past 18 years The Silver Case has remained a complete unknown in the West. It’s that The Silver Case, even in its translated form, is such a distinct product of its time. He commissioned Ooka to do the same for The Silver Case, but as a second branch to the story. Perhaps that’s one of the things that makes the translation and re-release of The Silver Case feel so important. • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is so full of possibilities that you can use its interlocking systems to cobble together a functional go-kart. Last week we saw YouTuber mety333 combine a mine cart and box to ascend to the game’s invisible ceiling and now they’ve discovered that they can swap the metal box for a smaller treasure chest and use it as a steering wheel of sorts. Simply place the chest in the boot of the cart and use your magnesis ability to propel your vessel forward. It’s no

  • We knew the Switch got off to a rousing start in Europe, smashing Nintendo’s previous platform sales records, but we didn’t know just how strong US sales would be after the initial launch. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild also set new records as it’s become Nintendo’s fastest-selling launch game of all time, as well as the fastest-selling entry in the Zelda series. Over 1.3m copies of the game were sold across US retail in March with 925k units on Switch and 460k on Wii U. You didn’t read

  • TumbleSeed, a roguelike that takes it core mechanic from Taito’s 1983 arcade cabinet Ice Cold Beer, is launching 2nd May on Switch, PS4, PC and Mac (via Steam). For the uninitiated, the way TumbleSeed works is you balance a ball on a beam that extends across the bottom of the screen horizontally. By adjusting the angle of the plank, you roll the titular Tumbleseed about, weaving it in and out of harm’s way. It’s a bit more complicated than that though, as you collect crystals and plant flora tha

  • Eurogamer’s Game of 2012 Fez is getting an iOS port later this year, developer Polytron has announced. Fez was released to critical acclaim upon its 2012 launch on Xbox 360. Subsequent years saw the game ported to PC, Mac, Linux, PS3, Vita, and PS4. Creative lead Phil Fish briefly announced a sequel to Fez in 2013 before deciding a month later to cancel it and step away from the video game industry. In 2016 his programmer partner Renaud Bédard later patched the PC, Mac and Linux versions of Fez

  • Back in February industry luminary Peter Moore announced that he’d be leaving the video game industry to become the CEO at Liverpool FC. In a heartfelt farewell to the industry that occupied 18 years of his life, Moore celebrated the time he spent at Sega, Microsoft, EA, and all the friends he’s made along the way. One such “cheesy stunt” was the time he got the release date of Halo 2 tattooed on his right bicep. Indeed Moore was always a good sport about criticism, as he deftly defied our delir
