pcgamer wrote a new post, YouTube’s FTC compliance system for ‘kids content’ angers and worries creators, on the site GoGame.com 6 years, 1 month ago
Starting in January, however, it won’t allow “content made for kids” on YouTube to include targeted advertising or employ YouTube’s social features. That initially happened in September, but as we approach 2020 and the new ‘for kids’ and ‘not for kids’ menu options have appeared in YouTube’s menu, video creators are getting nervous. Google will use “machine learning” to auto-flag videos it thinks are kids content, but where it doesn’t, video uploaders themselves will be required to determine wha

pcgamer wrote a new post, Nvidia releases a GPU hotfix to address stalling in Red Dead Redemption 2, on the site GoGame.com 6 years, 1 month ago
In response to complaints of Red Dead Redemption 2 hanging on some systems equipped with a GeForce graphics card, Nvidia has come out with a hotfix to address the issue. In addition, it is supposed to fix a crashing bug when playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider as well. Nvidia’s GeForce hotfix driver version 441.34 is based on the “Game Ready” 441.20 WHQL driver that I wrote about last week. The release notes for that driver mentioned a few RDR2 quirks that were supposed to be fixed, but apparently

pcgamer wrote a new post, Asus is using AI to bolster the noise-cancelling mic in its latest gaming headset, on the site GoGame.com 6 years, 1 month ago
As it pertains to the microphone, noise cancelling is part of the pitch, but Asus says it’s using artificial intelligence (AI) to make it better. If you head over to the product page and scroll down about a third of the way, you can listen to a trio of audio samples comparing passive noise cancellation, environmental noise cancellation, and AI-powered noise cancellation. Asus also created the above video showcasing the noise cancellation technology in an extremely noise environment. Outside of t

pcgamer wrote a new post, Narcos: Rise of the Cartels review, on the site GoGame.com 6 years, 1 month ago
Narcos: Rise of the Cartels contains almost none of this, and instead tries to tell the story of the Medellin Cartel exclusively through XCOM style turn based tactical combat. Narcos the TV show was clearly trying to acknowledge the amoral tactics employed by the police, but Narcos the game only really does so via the fact that it contains clips from the show. (Image credit: Curve Digital)I’m not against depicting the drug war in a strategy game, but Rise of the Cartels doesn’t really interspers

pcgamer wrote a new post, Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 has been extended to February, on the site GoGame.com 6 years, 1 month ago
We’re half-way through Fortnite Chapter 2’s first season, but Epic’s decided to extend it beyond the regular ten weeks, keeping it around until an unspecified date in February. “With a new year comes new beginnings,” Epic’s update reads. To prepare for all the new holiday-themed updates, we will be extending Chapter 2’s first season into early February. Thankfully, the holidays are a bit like a mini-season, so you’ll still have new stuff to keep you content until Season 2 begins early next year.

pcgamer wrote a new post, PUBG adds spike traps and helps out Vikendi’s snipers, on the site GoGame.com 6 years, 1 month ago
Starting now, you can ruin your fellow players’ leisurely car trips across the map in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds with a handy new spike trap. Update 5.2’s spike traps, not surprisingly, puncture tires, and you’ll be able to find them scattered over the maps, waiting to be added to your arsenal. You’ll need to find multiple spike traps if you want to ambush more than just one car. It’s not nearly as flashy as spike traps, but it’s probably going to get a lot more use. You can find out more abo

pcgamer wrote a new post, Help Moxxi heist Handsome Jack’s casino in Borderlands 3’s first expansion, on the site GoGame.com 6 years, 1 month ago
The first campaign expansion for Borderlands 3 was revealed today as Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot, a plot to take control of the gaudiest gambling joint in the galaxy. The Handsome Jackpot was built by Handsome Jack back when he was president of the Hyperion Corporation (the name is kind of a giveaway) but these days it’s crawling with “lunatic looters” and loader bots gone wild. Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot is the first of four DLC packs planned for Borderlands 3, and is built

pcgamer wrote a new post, Divinity: Original Sin 2 is getting a board game spin-off, on the site GoGame.com 6 years, 1 month ago
Divinity: Original Sin 2, which took the coveted top spot in the PC Gamer Top 100, is getting the board game treatment. Divinity Original Sin: The Board Game is a story-driven adventure for four players. Original Sin 2 itself leans heavily on D&D and tabletop roleplaying, so I’m surprised it’s been adapted to a more structured board game than a tabletop RPG. The broad stuff doesn’t sound particularly evocative of Original Sin 2, but combat, elements and skills seem a lot more familiar. The board

pcgamer wrote a new post, This Alien: Isolation mod fills the space station with xenomorphs, on the site GoGame.com 6 years, 1 month ago
Like the original movie, Alien: Isolation does a lot with a single monster that we’re only exposed to in brief, terrifying moments before we run off and hide. Modder Matt Flier’s Aliens: Isolation mod, as the extra ‘s’ implies, will pit you against a horde of alien nasties, but unlike the second movie you won’t be accompanied by a bunch of gun-toting marines helpfully willing to die in your place. Aliens: Isolation is still in development, so you can’t experience the nightmare quite yet, but you

pcgamer wrote a new post, Diablo 4 endgame progression is still undecided, on the site GoGame.com 6 years, 1 month ago
“We completely agree with the community sentiment—Ancients as they are don’t really serve a clear purpose in Diablo IV,” writes Kim. “We should have done a better job of explaining the role of Ancient Items in Diablo IV. Much of the end game is still up in the air, however, including the progression system. In tandem, Kim explains, Blizzard hopes they’ll give players a sense of completion while still encouraging them to complete endgame objectives. If you’ve got some opinions on endgame progress

pcgamer wrote a new post, Rockstar, please stop changing my Red Dead 2 settings every time there’s a patch, on the site GoGame.com 6 years, 1 month ago
And then Rockstar releases a patch for Red Dead Redemption 2 and you discover all your hard, painstaking work has been undone because your settings have been completely reset to default. That’s what happened again with today’s 3GB patch, and I’m begging you, Rockstar, to stop. After the first reset, I took a screenshot of the settings screen when I got the game back in balance. I don’t remember it happening with GTA 5, which kept my settings intact even after I’d uninstalled and reinstalled it.

107 different games were nominated in those categories for the 2019 show, led by Death Stranding with eight, and Control with seven. The nominations were picked by a jury of 80 “media and influencer outlets,” PC Gamer included. (Given Keighley’s friendship with Hideo Kojima and cameo in Death Stranding, we can guess which game he’s pulling for.) Voting for The Game Awards 2019 is live now. Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries will be the first single-player Mechwarrior game to come along since the standalone expansion of Mechwarrior 4: Vengeance, also called Mercenaries, which came out in 2002. The official Mechwarrior 5 Origins series is written by Randall Bills, a former FASA developer who’s written multiple Battletech novels and sourcebooks since 2000. “I started playing the miniatures game and reading the novels in 1986 and of course ran out and grabbed the very first MechWarrior comput

pcgamer wrote a new post, Broken Lines looks like XCOM mixed with Darkest Dungeons in an alt-history WW2, on the site GoGame.com 6 years, 1 month ago
Every now and then I run across a game that immediately intrigues me, even though I don’t know much about it. Broken Lines is one such game: It’s a “narrative-driven tactics game” that looks like a cross between X-COM and Darkest Dungeon that tells a Cross of Iron-style story set in an alt-history Second World War. Broken Lines follows a group of soldiers trapped behind enemy lines, who must fight their way back to friendly territory in “pause and play” tactical combat. Broken Lines is expected

pcgamer wrote a new post, Star Wars is everywhere, and now it’s officially in Roblox too, on the site GoGame.com 6 years, 1 month ago
(Image credit: Roblox Corporation)I had a moment this morning while reading through my RSS, when I was quite literally nauseated by the ubiquity of Star Wars. Since that moment I’ve learned that a) I will never escape Star Wars, because here I am, writing about it again, and b) that I won’t find any solace in Roblox, because now Star Wars is in that, too. Or you could play the new Star Wars game. Or perhaps you could watch the new Star Wars TV series, or pre-buy tickets to see the new Star Wars

Rust is getting some more new stuff next month, and for the first time ever you’ll have to pay something extra for it. The first premium DLC for Rust will feature playable musical instruments, 10 of them in all, including a piano, drums, sousaphone (pictured above), and yes, even a cowbell. The DLC will arrive on December 5, though the instruments are available now to play with and try out for free on Rust’s staging server branch. “We’ve created a whole new control system to play the instruments

Last week it came to light that Red Dead Redemption 2 might have a ‘Dark Souls 2 problem.’ When Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived on PC it appeared something similar was happening, though it was tied to Arthur’s health along with the weather and the day-night cycle. A patch for Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived today and it address this specific issue, not just for Arthur but also for your Red Dead Online characters. EVE Online’s Invasion World Tour, which saw CCP hit the road and host a series of smaller conventions instead of the now traditional EVE Fanfest in Iceland, hits its last stop this weekend. It will quickly be followed by the launch of Invasion Chapter 2, the second part of the MMO’s latest expansion. Invasion Chapter 2 kicks off on November 23, but before that CCP will be in London’s Indigo at the O2 Arena to end the tour. The event will begin with the EVE Invasion World Tournament, followed by

pcgamer wrote a new post, Detroit: Become Human becomes a PC game in December, on the site GoGame.com 6 years, 1 month ago
Quantic Dream announced in March that its previously PS4-exclusive games Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human would finally make their way to PC, via the Epic Games Store, later this year. Detroit: Become Human is set in a near future where androids “speak, move and behave like human beings,” but exist only to serve. and I have to wonder whether Quantic Dream will have anything fresh or interesting to offer in its take on the topic. Detroit: Become Human is available for pre-
