  • Gun Media has announced that because of a legal battle over the rights to the franchise, development of new content for Friday the 13th: The Game has been put on hold. The trouble is rooted in an ongoing dispute between Victor Miller, the writer of the original film, and Sean Cunningham, the producer and director of the film and current rights holder. And while that dispute works itself out, Gun Media said in a statement sent to 1428 Elm that it has no choice but to hit the pause button on futur

  • Publisher TinyBuild has just announced a brand new game at the PC Gaming Show at E3: Rapture Rejects, a 2D isometric battle royale game based on the webcomic Cyanide & Happiness. In the game’s story, god went on something of a binge drinking session, and accidentally beamed the worst of humanity up to heaven. How unfortunate. It’s a topdown game that recalls a little of Don’t Starve in its cartoon-y style, and it’s being developed by Galvanic Games, in collaboration with Explosm. The trailer abo

  • That’s the guiding principle behind Noita’s fascinating, horrifying design: Every pixel is simulated. To ensure you fuck up regularly and in horrible, hilarious ways, the wand system makes use of the same elemental properties of the world. I’ve played Noita for an hour or so, and barely made it through the first level in that time. I don’t want to prove myself to random systems again and again, but Noita skirts by on hilarity and surprise. Noita is dubbed a roguelite, too, so I’m guessing Nolla

  • It’s a 2D action platformer rendered almost entirely in black and red (and it’s out today on Steam and Itch). It could expand the level, it could take you to a new level, hell, it could beat the game. Well, here’s the thing: every time you die, your field of view gets smaller—a black circle encroaches on your screen. What I meant was that I haven’t killed them all in the same run, because each time you kill a boss, enemies gain special abilities. No matter what boss you’re fighting, the screen w

  • Things aren’t going well, but Morning Star, an upcoming farming game in the vein of Stardew Valley or Harvest Moon, imagines a future after the shitty one. Morning Star asks if we can correct a cyberpunk dystopia with the same tools that bring us to it. It may look dark, but Morning Star is an optimistic game. Morning Star, like Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley, will feature its own community. Maybe Morning Star can do a bit more convincing.

  • At first glance, Untitled Publisher’s Bravery Network Online (revealed just now at the PC Gaming Show) reminds me of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World mixed with Pokemon. The trailer above boasts turn-based fighting, you see, hand-drawn comic book-style characters, zany combat combos, a catchy soundtrack and—perhaps you’re best taking a look yourself. Between its Flicker Gloves and Round Ends, Claymores and Tag Outs, Pecks (my favourite) and Shrieks, I’m not really sure what’s going on there, but it s
