  • Footage of an elaborately failed convenience store robbery went viral earlier this week. In a video originally uploaded to CTV News, a young duo fends off cops in a tense in-store showdown in Alberta, Canada. The duo’s attempts are both ingenious and bumbling, and as The Huffington Post points out, it’s probably the best film you’ll see this year. Variations of the video have proliferated, but none can rival this edit made by Twitter user Omar Villegas. They’ve overlaid music and audio from Meta

  • Fortnite’s 4.5 update is out now, adding new weapons to both the Battle Royale and Save The World modes. Also available in the Weekly Store is the Lynx Assault Rifle, a “slow firing burst assault rifle with above average headshot damage and excellent stability”. Those are all exclusively rolling out for Save The World. Battle Royale is comparatively slim, with a sole Drum Gun being added. According to the update, it’s “a hybrid weapon that combines the stopping power of a rifle with the suppress

  • Dubbed Destiny: Guardians, it’s effectively the same game available in the west, except for one crucial difference: it has a different Eververse vendor. The Destiny 2 Eververse is an in-game store which sells various cosmetic items using real world currency, but South Koreans will get a different version. Importantly, South Korean players (or at least, those playing Destiny: Guardians and not Destiny 2) will be hosted on different servers to the rest of the world. So there’s no chance that any o

  • A handful of Hearthstone minions will be changed in the next major update to bring their types more in line with their appearances and place in Warcraft lore. Jungle Moonkin will go the other way: Moonkin are “intelligent humanoids,” Blizzard said, and so it’s losing the tag. “In this case, since power levels remain essentially unchanged, we will not offer a full Arcane Dust refund,” Blizzard said. There’s no word on when the update will roll out, but Blizzard invited players to submit suggestio

  • Last week, however, the Classification Board announced that it would reconsider the ruling, and today it revealed that the appeal has been successful. “A three-member panel of the Classification Review Board has unanimously determined that the computer game We Happy Few is classified R18+ (Restricted) with the consumer advice ‘Fantasy violence and interactive drug use,'” the Classification Review Board said in its decision. “In the Classification Review Board’s opinion We Happy Few warrants an R

  • I’m trying out the Sims 4: Seasons expansion, which adds spring, summer, fall, and winter, along with new weather, activities, and holidays. ‘Winterfest’, the Sims’ version of Christmas, is only a few days away. Surely, this Clement Frost character is just a barely disguised Santa (or Father Winter, as the Sims 4 calls him). Will it ruin Christmas if I make Santa live in my tiny house with my garbage animals? There’s another twist, though, as after I swap houses and pets I’m surprised to find th

  • Overwatch fans are pretty much in agreement that the new hero Wrecking Ball, a spherical mech piloted by a genius hamster named Hammond, is cool. Wrecking Ball! And while the creativity of Wrecking Ball as a name is up for debate, a bit of research shows that the words themselves are provably tough to say. The three syllables in Wrecking Ball use three main sounds: the ‘r’ sound , the ‘i’ sound , and the ‘ɔ:’ sound . Wrecking Ball doesn’t fit into either of these groups.

  • Yet its legend has endured: Silents Hills never saw the light of day, but PT quickly became a horror classic in its own right—brief, but brilliant. Because of that, efforts to resurrect it have persisted, most recently in the form of PT for PC. PT for PC is a 1GB download from Game Jolt, and it’s good—there’s not a lot to it, but there wasn’t a lot to the original either, and it’s still creepy as hell. “I really tried and I hate using Blender with the bottom of my heart.” As with all such projec

As reported by Polygon, popular streamers Destiny and m0e have both been hit with 30-day bans for using homophobic slurs in their streams. • Over at Dell, you can grab an Inspiron Gaming Desktop with a Core i5-8400 processor and GeForce GTX 1060 (3GB) for $699.99 today. Just as importantly, it’s a capable configuration for 1080p gaming. The Core i5-8400 is a 6-core/6-thread CPU clocked at 2.8GHz to 4GHz, with 9MB of L3 cache. Combined with a GeForce GTX 1060, which even though it’s the 3GB version and not the 6GB model, there’s enough grunt here for a respectable gaming experience. • SSDs are at pretty great prices right now, but if you need a massive amount of storage for your PC, an extra mechanical hard drive is usually the best option. If you’re running out of space on your desktop, or you need drives for a NAS/server, this is the deal for you. Right now, you can get HP’s enterprise-grade 4TB 7200RPM hard drive for just $69.99. Considering most 4TB hard drives are around $90 on Amazon, this is a good deal. You can buy the 4TB HP drive from Newegg.

  • A Way Out sold one million copies within three weeks—more than EA thought it would sell in its lifetime. Speaking to EG at last week’s Gamelab conference, Hazelight director Josef Fares—who also led development on Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons—described the dev’s relationship with EA as “super-good”. “Yeah, we’re with EA,” Fares told EG. “The next game will be longer than A Way Out, but that’s because it makes sense for that game,” added Fares. Now, both Shenmue and its successor Shenmue 2 have a PC launch date: August 21. Billed as “definitive” versions of the Dreamcast originals—first launched in 1999 and 2001 respectively—their Steam variations come with fully-scalable screen resolution, PC graphics options, an updated UI, and both Japanese or English voiceovers. • Great moments in PC gaming are short, bite-sized celebrations of some of our favorite gaming memories. It’s a photograph wrapped around a low-poly head to represent the angst-ridden gunslinger Max Payne. This is it, the expression Max Payne players will be looking at for 12 hours. It makes me unreasonably happy whenever I see it, and I have played a lot of Max Payne. Max Payne 2 dropped the Sam Lake grimace for a new head based on the actor Timothy Gibbs.

  • It’s a damn crime that no game ripped off Red Faction: Guerrilla’s Geo-mod destruction feature. It’s an otherwise uninspired open world game, with okay driving, unimpressive shooting and a boring story. But knocking down buildings in an open world is more than enough to carry this game. But that is the type of open world game I’ve always wanted to play, where you can manipulate the environment and feel like you’ve left a mark on it.
