  • The month before a new expansion is a magical time for World of Warcraft players. With a free trial that showcases its most tedious aspects, an abstract value proposition, and a painfully steep buy-in cost, World of Warcraft is a nightmare to get my friends into. Just wait until endgame…World of Warcraft’s free trial is all vegetables and no dessert. But World of Warcraft’s free trial is all vegetables and no dessert. • We took a look at inXile’s upcoming Bard’s Tale 4: Barrows Deep today and found it “a captivating dungeon crawler,” which is really good news for people (like me) who have been looking forward to getting their hands on it. Also in the “good news” department, inXile announced today that the game will be released on September 18. Like its 1980s predecessors, Bard’s Tale 4 is a single-player, first-person, party-based RPG set inside sprawling dungeons filled with puzzles, traps, and monsters. I’ve

In a statement, Kalypso talks of developing “completely new games for all platforms” and so-called extensive adaptations of “the existing titles for contemporary technologies and platforms.” Kalypso’s takeover also nets it the rights to Behind Enemy Lines follow-ups Commandos 2: Men of Courage, Commandos 3: Destination Berlin and Commandos: Strike Forc

After posting about his awesome player-made superhero film earlier today, Sonny Evans sent us the replay system cinematic above that shows off Fortnite’s newest locales. “I love that, Paradise Palms, Lazy Links and all the little Easter eggs and throwbacks to Season 4. At the end of Season 4, rifts started opening up all across the world making certain things disappear over time.

  • Every Old School Runescape player dreams of one day attaining the most gold you can possibly carry: 2.147 billion, the fabled “max cash.” As a result, roughly 20 minutes after the update went live, developer Jagex outright turned the game off, temporarily disabling all servers while they look into the gold duplication bug. As YouTuber OakDice pointed out, some wires got crossed and this update caused instanced events that store or generate gold to yield billions. In a statement to PC Gamer, Jage

  • When Digital Extremes first released it in 2013, people immediately wrote it off because it was a free-to-play game. And it all contributes to why Warframe is the best free-to-play game on PC. But when Digital Extremes finally showed off new features, like a hoverboard and giant walking robobugs, people were screaming with excitement. When talking with their audience, you get a sense that Digital Extremes isn’t trying to spin the truth or sell something. Of course, it’s to Digital Extremes’ bene

  • At a certain point in Kingdom Come’s story, Henry helps clear out the bandit-occupied village of Pribyslavitz. Divish names Henry the village bailiff, but says he can’t spare any coin because of the chaos gripping his province. Inexplicably, Henry doesn’t get his own house in the village despite investing his life’s savings in it. • The first “dungeon” you’ll explore in The Bard’s Tale 4 is not a maze of gloomy underground tunnels, absent of life but for the skeletons and goblins you have to kill. The Bard’s Tale 4’s exploration really started to feel right once I got past the tutorial and started exploring with no waypoints to string me along. The Bard’s Tale 4 is frequently gorgeous, especially after its first two areas. If the rest of The Bard’s Tale 4 maintains this level of atmosphere, I’d play through it for the scene

  • Video games were mindblowing in the ’90s. Nowadays, it’s possible to be unimpressed by a photo-realistic open world video game, but back then, Prince of Persia’s excessively bloody death-by-spikes animation was devastating and poetic. The video below, which compiles the intro sequences to 51 ’90s-era DOS games (yeah, there’s at least one game from the ’80s, I know), is a nostalgic delight. Created by YouTuber einokeino303, the video excludes CD-ROM titles, so don’t expect FMV sequences but do ex

  • Modders and level creators continue to produce goods for the original Doom. But nowadays they’re often designed for modernised versions: source ports like ZDoom or GZDoom. These are cool, but it’s neat to find a new Megawad created for the original DOS game, built under the ye olde engine restrictions (no free look, no slopes). That’s what Rekkr is, but it’s not the only cool thing about it. It’s a Viking-themed Megawad complete with 25 new levels, boasting its own textures, music and sound.

  • Most Steam users will agree that the storefront’s ‘Upcoming’ tab is a little on the unhelpful side. Described as a “smarter, more tailored list”, the new ‘Popular Upcoming’ tab will compile games that have attracted considerable pre-release interest. More useful will be the ‘see more Upcoming Releases’ button, which provides a list based on your personal interests and habits. “If you follow a developer or publisher with a new game coming out, the Upcoming Releases page will feature those games,”
