pcgamer wrote a new post, Dragon Quest 11’s PC port is barebones, but it looks great anyway, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 2 months ago
A Dragon Quest game releasing on PC is an exciting occasion, but while Dragon Quest 11 looks and runs well for me, it’s an underwhelming PC port. For one thing, at least you can rebind your controls, which puts DQ11 above some other games. And despite the utilitarian approach, the PC version runs flawlessly for me so far, and looks great despite having few settings to tweak. The best news is that while the framerate is limited to 60 in the menu, there’s a way around that. If you want to push the

pcgamer wrote a new post, I destroy everything I touch in god game The Universim, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 2 months ago
In The Universim, a god game now in Early Access, I’m inadvertently playing both roles. In fact, the only reason there are so many little nuggets on this planet is from my divine intervention. Another godly power is one that makes the little nuggets thirsty for each other, at which point they run into a hut and bang, producing one or more other little nuggets. As a god, my little nuggets now know me as one who flings trees and dead animals around and mutilates corpses. If I don’t get better at u

pcgamer wrote a new post, When bugs become features: why dynamic game systems surprise their creators, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 2 months ago
The game does not distinguish between ‘alive’ or ‘dead’ characters for this mechanic, though the design always assumed that ‘alive’ enemies would be the ones to get frozen. “As a result, the player can still create that same traversable block of ice around dead characters. This mechanic exists for the traditional stealth game reasons of hiding a body so that other enemies won’t be alerted by it. “I happened to find a large group asking for players to help protect Boralus from the Horde,” BennyWoW told me. Death from aboveJust before Battle for Azeroth launched, Blizzard introduced the new War Mode which replaced PvP-specific servers with a much more elegant solution. With War Mode, every zone is turned into a dangerous battleground full of player-driven conflict. At the top of the mountain overlooking Boralus, BennyWoW, a night elf hunter, used his Eagle Eye ability to scout the situati

pcgamer wrote a new post, Defiance 2050 is a relaunch that fixes little of what sucked about the original MMO, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 2 months ago
The original Defiance MMO shooter, released in 2013, wasn’t impressive even five years ago. The show only lasted three seasons before getting canned though the original MMO is still active—even after this relaunch, which is a bit awkward to say the least. When I say that Defiance 2050 more or less seems to be the exact same game as the original, I’m not being hyperbolic. Now that Defiance 2050 isn’t shackled by the Syfy TV show, Trion has free reign to take the story and setting in whatever dire

pcgamer wrote a new post, 11 things I wish I’d known before starting Dragon Quest 11, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 2 months ago
Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age is the first Dragon Quest game to come to PC (Heroes spin-offs notwithstanding), and as Wes explained, it’s a landmark release for Japanese games as a whole. Compared to other JRPGs on PC, like the Tales, Legend of Heroes and Final Fantasy games, Dragon Quest games operate a little differently. So, to help you get into all the good stuff Dragon Quest 11 has to offer, I’ve rounded up some tips and tricks that I desperately wish I’d known going into the ga

pcgamer wrote a new post, How to open the red doors in Dragon Quest 11, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 2 months ago
There are two varieties of secret doors in Dragon Quest 11: silver doors which can’t be opened until you finish the main story, and red doors which can’t be opened until you reach a certain point in the main story. We’re going to focus on the red doors for now because there’s a lot of good stuff behind them and you can open most of them well before you finish the game. Most red doors are hiding treasure chests containing armor, weapons or crafting materials, but some will also get you priceless

The tangled shore is a bit plain but there’s the promise of an endgame rainbow city at the end of it. I even like the Gambit mode, which sounded gimmicky and confusing to me when it was revealed. I’ve spent as much time scratching my head and furiously scribbling notes into my pad as I have progressing its plot. Though my two teammates are decidedly more casual than I am, I’m having a great time showing them the ropes. After a weekend of running Heroic-difficulty dungeons (and dying a lot), they

pcgamer wrote a new post, How Larian revised Divinity: Original Sin 2’s final act, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 2 months ago
Divinity: Original Sin 2 might be an exceptional RPG—not to mention PC Gamer’s 2017 game of the year—but after its launch last year, Larian Studios still thought it had room for improvement. With a console release on the cards, the developer set about working on Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition. One of Original Sin 2’s neatest features is its origins system. But what Original Sin 2 does not tell you is how to get from A to B. Vincke recalls Original Sin 2’s first reviewer managing to

pcgamer wrote a new post, Who would you have cast as Geralt?, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 2 months ago
News came earlier this week that Superman actor Henry Cavill has been cast as Geralt in Netflix’s adaptation of the Witcher books. All that in mind, who would you choose to portray Geralt in a live action show? He’s ripped, he has the beard and long hair, and speaks in a growly whisper that would suit Geralt well. Give him the scars, the stubble (or beard, as it may be), the hair, and the eyes, and all we’d see is Geralt. He does a good “everything has gone wrong but I’m not giving up” stare tha

pcgamer wrote a new post, With so many extremely good and not bad Spider-Man games on PC, who even needs a PS4, on the site GoGame.com 8 years, 2 months ago
I want to play Spider-Man, dammit. And it’s the only Spider-Man game on Steam, according to our article, which is now a bit out of date because it’s not the only Spider-Man game on Steam, and also, it’s not actually on Steam anymore. I want to play a Spider-Man game, where I’m Spider-Man. Off to the internet, then, or the ‘web’, to look for Spider-Man game that won’t end because I’ve made the mistake of trying to be Spider-Man. In this side-scroller you’re Spider-Man and you have zero bones, pos

Rainbow Six Siege players who use slurs are now getting instantly banned. “The ban system is going strong, actually, and we feel very strongly about the system,” Remy tells me at last month’s Paris Major. “That is a very, very strong stance from Ubisoft and from the game about how we want to deal with toxicity in the game. Nevertheless, he says “we have no regrets whatsoever when it comes to banning toxic players” and that being strong means clamping down to prevent bad behaviour from spreading.

You don’t need to tackle all of them right away, so you should prioritise the ones that are genuinely unhappy. You’ll need a psychiatrist for both diagnosis and treatment, a second GP and eventually a doctor to run the Resolution Lab. The list of rooms you’ll need to build and staff is long enough, and any additional doctors you hire will have their hands full. When you need to unclog toilets, fill vending machines, or some other kind of busy work to hit a goal, you don’t need to wait until they

For starters, the place is overseen by the eight Scorn Barons who escaped from the Prison of Elders and killed Vanguard leader Cayde-6. If Forsaken was a Spaghetti Western, the Barons would be the bad dudes in black hats extorting the kindly townsfolk. Party crasherThe Shore’s Lost Sectors were more memorable. It was funny and characterful and utterly unique—everything lost sectors should be. I hope all future lost sectors are just as good.
