pcgamer wrote a new post, Seven old-school LucasArts games just popped up on Steam, on the site GoGame.com 7 years, 11 months ago
Disney has added seven old-school LucasArts games to Steam, including Sam & Max Hit the Road and Escape from Monkey Island, the fourth in the classic adventure game series. They’re all already available on GOG, but they’re discounted on Steam until November 23, so this is a good time to fill in any gaps in your collection. They span a range of genres: as well as adventure games you’ll find strategy game Afterlife, a pair of Indiana Jones action games and even a certain pod racer. Here’s the full

pcgamer wrote a new post, Who is your most hated game protagonist?, on the site GoGame.com 7 years, 11 months ago
This weekend’s PCG Q&A is a kind of sequel to one we did last year, where we asked which game character you hate. Today we more specifically focus on protagonists in games: from irritating wisecracking heroes to boring bald men or spiky-haired leads with big swords, who is your most hated game protagonist? And even though I’m beyond tired of cover shooting being the only way people make third-person games now, they were right: it was a phenomenally well made game with technically accomplished co

pcgamer wrote a new post, This week’s highs and lows in PC gaming, on the site GoGame.com 7 years, 11 months ago
The video reminds me of a trend in PC gaming modding and map editing that I struggle to name exactly. This week I have had new games to play every day, but all I can think about is bloody Warframe. It wasn’t like this before I started working at PC Gamer, so I’m blaming my colleagues for this one. Also, I’m hoping the mouse controls are decent, because I’m no good with a stick, and Killer7 requires fast reflexes. Either way, I’m happy to have an easy way to finish up one of the strangest, sillie

pcgamer wrote a new post, Fallout 76 is getting an FOV slider, on the site GoGame.com 7 years, 11 months ago
Fallout 76 will be getting an FOV slider “soon”, Bethesda announced today. It won’t be part of the patch planned for November 19, which will mostly focus on performance, stability, quest fixes and UI tweaks, but an FOV slider will be added by the end of the year, according to a post on Bethesda’s site. Also planned to arrive in 2018: a push-to-talk option “in the next few weeks” and a stash size increase, though that may take a bit longer. “The current limit is there for technical reasons, to ca

So let’s play some PC games in the living room, on that big ol’ TV. It’s much easier than it used to be to get your PC games running on a TV, thanks to options like Steam in-home streaming and Big Picture mode. The Complete Guide to PC Gaming PC Gamer is going back to the basics with a series of guides, how-tos, and deep dives into PC gaming’s core concepts. If you’re mainly going to play games through Steam, however, you can make your living room PC much more convenient by having it auto-boot i

pcgamer wrote a new post, Watch the debut trailer for Beholder, a new project from the Papers, Please filmmakers, on the site GoGame.com 7 years, 11 months ago
A short film based on the indie misery simulator Papers, Please was announced in 2017 and released earlier this year, and by all appearances it’s every bit as bleak as you’d expect. Now the duo behind it, Nikita Ordynskiy and Liliya Tkach, are turning their filmmaking talents to a different game, Beholder, and it looks to be even bleaker. The visual style seen in the trailer very closely mimics that of the game, and Ordynskiy told Variety that other elements of the film will follow suit. But whe

pcgamer wrote a new post, Sunset Overdrive’s mouse controls are terrible, on the site GoGame.com 7 years, 11 months ago
Bummer, because mouse control is totally busted in the PC version. And since mouse input is likely filtered through an emulated stick, cursor aim speed is also limited. Mouse aim seems to be affected by the framerate too, because the skips are especially bad without a cap. Uncapped framerates were still stuck around 60 fps and led to the same choppy mouse aim. My stupid desire to take a bath in bad jokes and crude colors makes the mouse control problems all the more tragic.

pcgamer wrote a new post, Fallout 76’s VATS makes it tough for the Mysterious Stranger to be mysterious, on the site GoGame.com 7 years, 11 months ago
The Mysterious Stranger! (Gif made from this Mysterious Stranger compilation video on YouTube.) We’ve known The Mysterious Stranger was a perk card in Fallout 76 for months, but I’ve been extremely curious how he’d be handled. Since VATS in Fallout 76 doesn’t slow down time or use cinematic camera moves, how is the Mysterious Stranger going to appear, exactly? Like VATS itself in Fallout 76, the Mysterious Stranger lacks a bit of drama and finesse in real-time.

Cliff Bleszinski earned fame during his time at Epic on games including Unreal, Gears of War, and, let us never forget, Jazz Jackrabbit. After spending 20 years with the company, he left in 2012 but returned to making games in 2014 with the arena shooter LawBreakers. https://t.co/RtS7l5WcAlNovember 15, 2018The tweet came in response to a “fan” who is apparently unhappy about not getting a refund on LawBreakers. Unsurprisingly, the exchange led to more heat on Twitter, some of it fueled by a back

pcgamer wrote a new post, Fortnite beats out Red Dead Redemption 2 for Golden Joysticks’ Game of the Year, on the site GoGame.com 7 years, 11 months ago
The Golden Joystick Awards have determined that Subnautica, the undersea survival sim that is really a horror game in disguise (and if you don’t believe me, give it a try sometime and let me know how it goes), is the PC Game of the Year. CD Projekt’s upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 took the title for Most Wanted Game, while Fortnite beat out not-on-PC heavyweight Red Dead Redemption 2 to claim the overall Game of the Year title. Fortnite is a phenomenon, of course, and while I wouldn’t necessarily argue

Final Fantasy 14’s next major expansion, called Shadowbringers, was just announced live during the annual Final Fantasy 14 Fanfest. Unlike other jobs, the Blue Mage will “provide a unique solo experience” and only learn abilities from other monsters, which is how the class traditionally works in Final Fantasy games. While details are scarce, it sounds like Blue Mages will be a class that you primarily level in solo dungeons designed exclusively for Blue Mages. The popular theory is that FF14 wil

While you’re there, you can snag a delicious (presumably) sandwich for just $2. Even better, it comes with a surprisingly robust selection of meats—choose between black forest ham, turkey, or even roast beef. According to the ad, this is a hand-crafted sandwich, not a mass-produced hoagie where the meat and veggie management is likely to be messy. However, it’s available now while supplies last (no rainchecks), except for Fry’s locations in Manhattan Beach, Campbell, Fountain Valley, Woodland Hi

If you’ve never been excited about marbles, you haven’t been playing the right games. It’s a game where you roll around as a marble and try to get to the end of an obstacle course as fast as you can. ‘s predecessor, Marble Blast Ultra, was a gem of the early Xbox Live era (it was on PC, too). is essentially a puzzle game, but not many puzzle games ask for this kind of dexterity in navigating a 3D space. Marble games are back!

Lest there was any doubt that Intel fully plans on supporting VESA’s adaptive sync technology in its upcoming GPUs, the company doubled down on its intentions, calling it part of a broader priority to support standard interfaces. Part of the reason is because Nvidia had trouble clearing out its stockpile of previous generation Pascal graphics cards. “Gaming revenue was short of our expectations, and our fourth quarter outlook is impacted by excess channel inventory of midrange Pascal products,” Nvidia said. Nvidia also noted a 23 percent reduction in OEM and IP revenue “due to the absence of crypto-currency mining.” We’re finally starting to see that, with Battlefield 5 gaining ray tracing support ahead of the standard e
