  • Its Resident Evil 2 remake was three times more popular on Steam than 2017’s Resident Evil 7, and now its latest game, hack-and-slash Devil May Cry 5, has surpassed both of them, making it Capcom’s second biggest PC launch ever. As of writing, the game has a concurrent player peak of around 89,000, and is in the top 10 on Steam in terms of current players. That could improve over the weekend, too, but it’s unlikely to catch up with Monster Hunter: World, Capcom’s biggest-ever Steam launch, which

  • Over on the Apex Legends subreddit, Respawn have posted their latest “check-in”. It notes a few things they’re looking at, but the most interesting is that using Easy-Anti-Cheat has led to over 355,000 cheaters being banned on PC. “The service works but the fight against cheaters is an ongoing war that we’ll need to continue to adapt to and be very vigilant about fighting”, they write. “We take cheating very seriously and care deeply about the health of Apex Legends for all players.” One more th

  • In February, Valve laid off 13 of its full-time employees and an unknown number of its contractors. “It’s an unfortunate part of business, but does not represent any major changes at the company,” Valve said in a statement. Artifact fan blog Artibuff reached out to Richard Garfield, who served as that game’s designer under contract, to see if he was one of those terminated. • We were expecting Anthem’s 1.03 patch on March 12, but according to a post from their community manager Jesse Anderson it’ll be here “between 7am and 9am Central Time on March 9th” instead. That’s the high-level stuff but there’s also a long list of more general fixes. Missions should now end when they’re supposed to rather than sometimes leaving everyone in limbo until the game notices you’ve completed all the objectives, and you’ll be able to launch an expedition from anywhere in Fort Tarsis.

  • From March 8 to March 18 an elusive target will be available in Hitman 2’s Hawke’s Bay level—that’s the New Zealand beach house from the tutorial. Dame Barbra Elizabeth Keating is a corrupt politician who has dodged a scandal and is about to embark on a PR tour with a body double for safety. If you manage to complete the contract without killing the double, you’ll get a higher rating. • This weekend Cities: Skylines, the city-building sim from Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive, will celebrate its fourth birthday. Most notable is the fact that Cities: Skylines has sold six million copies in that time, a thoroughly decent amount for a game of its type. Special in-game events will be happening over the weekend, including free radio DLC giveaways and a Chirper design competition. As the blog explains, “Share your best Chirper design on the Cities: Skylines social channels for

  • Path of Exile: Synthesis adds a new Challenge League to the popular free action-RPG. Synthesis is all about exploring lost memories and its dungeons are made by players, assembled from fragments of the decaying memories of an NPC named Cavas. It’s an intriguing high concept for a game that’s often a bit generic in its theming. That’s not all that’s been added in the latest Path of Exile update, and the full list of changes is here if you’ve got enough time to read them all. Among the changes is

  • The latest Early Access update for Subnautica’s standalone expansion Below Zero is here. It’s called the seatruck update because that’s the main thing it adds: A new vehicle you can build by constructing a cab and then choosing modules to add to it. This update also adds friends and threats, as shown in the video above. Two new biomes and a cargo transfer launchpad are also part of the seatruck update. Buried Debts is Warframe’s first community event of the year, and it’s introducing the new chonky Hildryn warframe. As much fun as she’ll be, perhaps the biggest addition coming with Operation: Buried Debts is the first phase of Warframe’s melee combat rework. • For some damn reason I’ve decided now is the perfect time to become hopelessly addicted to League of Legends. The worst I’ve had to deal with is my team’s exasperated comments when I’m playing especially poorly and, I mean, I get it. A good portion of players I’ve met have been pretty courteous even when we lose. That’s partly because, starting out, I’m playing with people who are just as awful as I am (and the occasional “smurf” account). It’s 2019 and I just started playing League of Legends a

  • Display maker AOC is coming out with an aggressive price point for its newest gaming monitor, a 28-inch model with a 4K resolution, HDR visuals, and FreeSync support. For one, this monitor is using a TN panel. It’s also well below the eye-searing 1,000 nits level where HDR really shines. That said, AOC claims this monitor offers 102 percent coverage of the sRGB color space, for “vivid colors and popping visuals.” And it’s tough to scoff at the price, so long as you know what you’re getting—a rel

  • The studio has published a lengthy trailer to mark the opening of pre-orders for Ready or Not and provide a look at the game’s approach to a law enforcement-themed shooter. ‘Trailer’ is a bit of a misnomer here, since at nearly eight minutes’ runtime, this is really more of a featurette. The video highlights Ready or Not’s dark and pessimistic vision of a near-future United States, its non-lethal takedown systems, and its hyper-realistic approach to ballistics.
