  • Metro Exodus was among the first games to cause a stir due to its exclusivity to the Epic Games Store. Originally available as a pre-order on Steam, the shooter was later removed in favour of Epic’s storefront. While the game will still launch on Steam in February 2020, it looks like another storefront will get it even sooner: it’s just appeared on the Windows Store, with a release date of June 9. It’s interesting timing: Microsoft has confirmed its Xbox Game Pass subscription service will launc

  • Love Thyself—A Horatio Story, an April Fools’ joke turned into a real game, has received a new chapter, concluding the story of clones and romance. A Horatio Story is dating sim and visual novel navigating the complexities of working and finding love in a society of clones based on one narcissist: Horatio. Despite its origins, it’s not all played for laughs, and it actually does a good job of exploring one of Endless Space 2’s most unusual factions. Four unique endings based on your actions and

  • Diablo, which was recently released digitally for the first time on GOG, has now been joined by its non-canonical expansion, Hellfire. I confess I’d forgotten all about it, but enough people wanted to replay it that Blizzard has allowed GOG to throw it into Diablo. Hellfire’s not considered an official expansion by Blizzard. It was developed in 1997 by Synergistic Software and spun a yarn that took place alongside the original Diablo. The expansion has been updated with high-resolution support a

Lornsword is a rare thing, an RTS with local split-screen co-op and battles that you control with a gamepad. Tower Five has made something strange but quite satisfying—it sits somewhere between Age of Empires and Lemmings. If you’re really stuck you can summon spirits temporarily to zap enemies with fire magic, or tear down buildings with stone golem attacks. The pad controls work, and the game cleverly uses glyphs to replace UI elements that would normally require a mouse. Lornsword is in Early

Everything revolves around your limited space. Another city had a surplus of grain, however, so a quick trade deal kept the wolves from the door. Each plateau city has its own strengths and weaknesses. Balancing how the cities trade with each other is a key part of the strategy. This all may sound pretty standard for a city builder, outside the setting, but Cliff Empire has a narrative all its own to follow.
In this city builder you restart civilization on a tiny plateau above a radioactive Earth

  • Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 will let you spread lots of jolly mayhem and destruction across the galaxy in the upcoming Chaos campaign. It’s due later this month, letting you play as the tattoo and tentacle-loving minions of Chaos, wiping out the other factions sector by sector. A Chaos campaign has been the most requested feature so far, according to developer Tindalos Interactive, and it will include a new story, missions and mechanics. Tom called the battles stupendous and spectacular in his

  • The Surge 2’s release date has appeared on the Microsoft Store. The sequel to the limb-stealing action game will appear on September 24, with preorders netting players an exclusive armour set, weapons and equipment. Spotted by Wccftech yesterday on the Australian store, it seemed like someone had jumped the gun, though the rest of the regions have since followed suit. This time you’ll be brawling through a city, which Deck13 says features larger and more ambitious level design. The Surge 2 is du

  • At that point in time, Fable was called Wishworld, and YouTube channel People Make Games managed to get its hands on a playable build. In Wishworld, the player would pick a character archetype with a particular magic specialty. The enemy would do the same, and you’d be able to see them working their magic in the distance. Eventually, once you’d created your own world and gathered your spells, you’d strike out at the heart of the enemy’s newly-created base, trying to defeat them. The idea was nev

  • For the last couple weeks, The Division 2’s PvP modes have been overrun with players running around with ridiculously high armor values, and that’s been thanks to a gear scaling bug that’s thankfully been patched out in this morning’s update. The glitch allowed players to exploit The Division 2’s gear score normalization using certain mods. Putting that piece of gear on a level 30 character would result in the armor percentage added increasing many times over, up to more than 100 percent, when t

  • Bethesda director Todd Howard has said that the studio expected a rough reception for Fallout 76, and that he thinks the online RPG has somewhat damaged the developer’s reputation. “We knew we were going to have a lot of bumps,” he said, when asked by IGN whether Bethesda was prepared for the negative reaction. Howard said he wishes the team had got Fallout 76 into players’ hands earlier for more extensive testing. However, he believes the game has “really turned around” into a “fabulous game wi

  • It’s also the kind of game that made me want to switch weapons constantly, at least in a brief demo. Boss rooms, treasure rooms, standard rooms, etc. Seed Hunter reminds me of a gloomier Muramasa. Seed Hunter is being made by a Chinese indie studio, and is out on Steam this July, though I’m not sure if that’s going to be the English release. The game does have an English Twitter page, so keep your eye on that if a 2D roguelike with Monster Hunter-style weapons sounds like your jam.

  • Earlier this year work resumed on Capital Wasteland, a total overhaul mod that aims to bring Fallout 3 into the Fallout 4 engine. Now we’ve got a glimpse of what it’s looking like, thanks to the trailer above. Plenty of locations familiar from Fallout 3 are visible behind the exploding ghouls, like the Metro Tunnels and Megaton, and fondly remembered outfits like the Vault armor and various bits of raider and merc fashion are visible too. • It’s not uncommon for the Figueroa Hotel to get a makeover in the leadup to E3. In previous years it’s been used to advertise Gwent, Grand Theft Auto 5, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and Skyrim. We know that Doom Eternal is going to feature plenty more demons to fight and this gives us an early glimpse of some of them (is that a new Arch-Vile?) The official Doom Twitter account has been posting updates so keep an eye on that. If you’ve ever been curious how these multi-storey advertisements get made,

  • Challenging platformer Celeste’s upcoming free DLC will be even more generous than I first thought: it will contain more than 100 levels, creator Matt Thorson revealed yesterday, which is more than the dev team initially intended. To put that in perspective, the full game had just over 700 levels, so this Chapter 9 DLC is another significant slice. We already know that these new levels will be “extra hard”, will not contain any collectible strawberries, and will have new items and mechanics. The

  • The trailer for the Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack is mostly focused on showing off Shang Tsung and his ability to shapeshift into a variety of palette-swap ninjas, which actually looks much cooler than I’ve just made it sound. The trailer also lists several other characters coming as part of the DLC—Sindel, Nightwolf, and comic book antihero Spawn—then mentions “two more guests will be revealed”. Both these characters had been suggested by a datamine of the Switch version, a rumour Bruce Campbell

  • Kerbal Space Program, still one of the best games you can play on PC today, has brought out its second-ever expansion, Breaking Ground, which gives you more things to do once you touch down on another planet. The seismometer particularly takes my fancy: to get a reading, you have to deliberately crash things into the surface. Lastly, the expansion adds new items to plug into your crafts, such as hinges, pistons and rotors. It certainly sounds substantial, and the fact it’s only the second expans
