  • Hollywood might not have delivered these sequels, but video games did. Here are 11 video games that served, unofficially, as follow-ups to classic movies. A Westwood Studios point-and-click adventure, this ‘90s video game incarnation sets itself within the timeframe of Ridley Scott’s classic. Most James Bond video games struggle to match the brilliance of GoldenEye, but one stands out thanks to production values worthy of a 007 blockbuster. Okay, four of them… and this video game that casts yo

  • Game of Thrones season 7 is nearly here and one of its key players has opened up about whether she’ll survive the next seven episodes and make it to the final season. Emilia Clarke (better known as Daenerys) may have committed a big HBO no-no by revealing whether her character will show up down the road – and that includes any spinoffs. Potential spoilers follow…”I mean, I have no doubt there’ll be prequels and sequels and who knows what else. But I am doing one more season [after Game of Throne

  • The production of the Han Solo movie may be feeling like a womp rat post-Luke smooshing right now, but it’s not all bad news: Disney have allegedly seen a sizzle reel for the movie and are pretty darn impressed. StarWarsNewsNet reported that the sizzle reel in question was shown pre-Phil Lord and Chris Miller firings, which only opens up a whole bunch of questions about the production’s issues. A month ago a #HanSolo sizzle reel was shown to Disney licensees and we hear people were very impresse

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s first DLC pack will arrive on June 30. Assuming you have a decent-sized MicroSD card for your Nintendo Switch, 456MB should be no trouble at all. The Wii U version of The Master Trials, though, that’s gonna take up a whole 3.7GB. If you aren’t sure what all this Master Trials business is about, you can catch up with this gameplay preview from Nintendo’s E3 2017 presentations. • A new rumor indicates that the hero of Visceral’s Star Wars game won’t work alone. She’s another Star Wars Orphan(™) and apparently she doesn’t like droids, which puts her at odds with Dodger’s trusty medical droid Doc. Apparently Mattox’s whole look has a very Dr. Aphra-like vibe, if you follow that particular Star Wars comic. Visceral’s Star Wars game is currently slated to arrive some time in 2018, though EA has said very little about it in an official capacity so far. We’ll probably find out

  • Summer is officially here. No, it’s the fact that the Steam Summer Sale has begun. Ignore that wailing coming from your bank account, as you’ve probably already delved into the bargains on offer. Yet despite the dizzying amount of money this wondrous time of the year will save you, there are a few things that we can’t quite see past when it comes to Steam sales. Try telling us that not one of these has ever annoyed you before.

  • What is a cult movie? Nope, the term ‘cult movie’ is typically applied to any motion picture that attracts a cult-like following. At other times, cult interest will spring up around a critically panned disaster -sometimes ironically, oftentimes not. Strange, obsessive and irreverent, these cults deserve a ‘best of’ list that’s every bit as quirky as they are. Join the cult: You don’t have to go the whole Divine to get in the gang.

  • In most racing games, these long, high-speed routes would be the centrepiece attraction, but Forza Horizon rarely draws attention to them. If Forza Horizon’s maps were just a way to link a selection of events, such restraint would be a waste. In addition to the main progression, each Forza Horizon lets you earn points from skills, earned through adept displays of dangerous driving. • Han Solo pisses off most people, creatures, and miscellaneous aliens he comes into contact with, but none more so than Jabba the Hutt. Which is why news that the blobbish baddie might be appearing in the Han Solo movie is such a breath of fresh air after the firings of directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. • Iron Man’s suits seem to get more updates than Windows 10 and, as Avengers: Infinity War rolls around, that seems to be the case yet again. Stark’s Mark 45 armour (trust me, I looked it up) gets a sleeker, cooler upgrade. For comparison, the Mark 45 and the new suit (which you can see below) are fairly different. The scene in question being filmed includes Iron Man coming face-to-face, possibly for the first time, with Doctor Strange and Wong, with Bruce Banner along for the ride too. It’s fair

  • Yellowstone National Park is home, sweet home”Guerrilla might have dropped a substantial hint about how big the Frozen Wilds map will be.” The Banuk people aren’t the friendliest bunch, greeting Aloy in the Frozen Wilds trailer with a harsh reminder that she’s trespassing on their land. That description pretty much matches the geysers and hot springs featured in Frozen Wilds trailer, and the Banuk society is no calmer than the bubbling, scalding water located nearby. • Ubisoft took some time away from annual installments of Assassin’s Creed to reinvigorate the series with new ideas, and new ideas it most certainly has found. But I’m not talking about Assassin’s Creed Origins’ trip back in time to ancient Egypt – I’m talking about Assassin’s Creed Rebellion, an upcoming iOS and Android game that looks like Assassin’s Creed meets Fallout Shelter in all the best ways. Once you build up your base, you’ll be able to send out your Assassins on missions. I’m not sure

A standalone version of the game is now available on PS4 in either physical or digital form for $39.99 / £34.99. • David Bowie’s turn as the goblin king caused equal parts confusion and mockery in the initial years following the film’s release, but has since settled into a staple of cultural iconography. It’s partly to do with the fact that Bowie was a rock star. In most of his cinematic appearances there was always the slightly jarring disconnect of ‘holy shit, that’s David Bowie being David Bowie’ whenever he appeared on screen. In Labyrinth that’s less of an issue because can you imagine anything more ‘Da

  • Xbox One X is a truly 4K console, according to Microsoft, and 4K assets take up a lot of space. But the company is also striving to keep the same games compatible on both Xbox One X and the non-4K original Xbox One. Does that mean players with less-beefy consoles will have to give up extra hard drive space (Forza Motorsport 7 has a whopping 100GB estimated install size) for assets they won’t even be able to use? “With the launch of Xbox One X, when it comes to game content our intention is to do

Whether they bite the big one or just decide to hang up the cape, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has confirmed that Avengers: Infinity War will be the final chapter for some MCU regulars. Speaking to entertainment site JoBlo, Feige gave a simple (but resounding) “yes” when asked if Infinity War would be the last film for “certain beloved characters.” When asked if there were plans for more movi

  • If Mario’s actually been the hat all along, as some fans speculated after seeing Super Mario Odyssey’s new enemy-possessing “Capture” move in action, then why couldn’t he assume direct control before now? One modder has resolved that bothersome inconsistency by tweaking Super Mario 64 to retcon in a surprisingly full-featured version of Cappy capturing. Just like in Super Mario Odyssey, Mario can throw his cap (though in this case it sort of just twirls out from his body) onto enemies and even s

  • Assassin Creed’s combat has been a very familiar dance since the series launched. Now, Assassin’s Creed Origins is changing fighting for the first time. In our in-depth interview with Assassin’s Creed director Ashraf Ismail he explains that the old game’s twinned animations have been replaced with a new hitbox system. The game previously used paired animation to bring the hero and enemies’ swords together, something Ismail says was used repeatedly as subsequent installments used “the same founda

  • Despite what you might have heard, Assassin’s Creed Origins will have towers and viewpoints, they just won’t offer quite the same sync function as previous games. Speaking to Assassin’s Creed Origins’ creative director Ashraf Ismail, he clarified that viewpoints are back but “for the pure purpose that we felt it was a nice homage to the series.” There’s some functional aspect to viewpoints then, but it’s more about paying homage to the series and laying a foundation for the future.
