  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has received a lot of accolades over its open-ended structure and unique physics engine. Flint creates fire, fire creates wind, and water douses fire. But there is one good thing about the rain in Hyrule: it has an adverse effect on the flaming one-eyed bat known as the Fire Keese. In this clip by Redditor pkbronsonb we see the precipitation extinguish the Fire Keese’s flaming wings. What one might not anticipate is that if you keep the Fire Keese flapping

  • Invisible, Inc. is one of those games I’ve been meaning to play ever since it came out. Everyone I know who’s played it through is a committed enthusiast (hello Oli Welsh) and yet I never got round to booting it up. Turns out everybody was right – Invisible, Inc. is a terrific turn based strategy game, even if it’s the kind of game that seems specifically tailored to make me nervous. Chris told me off camera that Invisible, Inc. was very nearly called Incognita, after the helpful A.I. I think I

  • Gothic Groundhog Day-esque adventure The Sexy Brutale is getting a retail release next week on PS4 with one minor problem: the first-run prints have compiled the manual backwards. To the publisher’s credit, Badland’s been very proactive in supplying solutions to those affected ahead of The Sexy Brutale: Full House Edition’s 25th April release. This £19.99 / €24.99 Full House Edition includes a PS4 copy of The Sexy Brutale, an official soundtrack CD, and the full-colour instruction manual in ques

  • The previous leaks suggesting a World War 2-themed Call of Duty game have been confirmed by Activision after the publisher teased a full reveal for Call of Duty: WW2 on Twitter. Yes, it really is called Call of Duty: WW2. Call of Duty: WW2 is being developed by Sledgehammer Games, who made 2014’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. The series is gets a new annual entry with development duties cycled between three studios: Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer Games. “A next generation game with

  • YouTuber StealthGamerBR’s videos don’t fit any of these criteria, yet they may be my favourite of the bunch. What’s interesting about StealthGamerBR’s videos is that they’re not conventional challenge runs with stringent rules, but rather compiled under a different guiding principle: What would be most entertaining to watch? In a strange way, StealthGamerBR’s gameplay videos are less like video game playthroughs than they are slapstick comedy romps. In a weird way, there’s a strong thematic conn

  • A long time ago in a galaxy far away (well, in Florida last weekend, but it still is quite a journey) we attended the Star Wars Celebration where EA properly lifted the veil from Star Wars Battlefront 2. Mark Thompson: Without getting into too much detail that I will get in trouble for… We take all of our cues from how to tell a Star Wars story working with Lucasfilm story group, analysing the movies, breaking down the beats and flow of Star Wars storytelling. Does it feel right for Star Wars?

  • The thing is, while that statement certainly fits thematically with the Dark Souls franchise – or, at least, the way the Dark Souls franchise is marketed – it’s not a great fit for a board game. As I unpacked Dark Souls the Board Game and its sumptuous miniatures, in other words, I worried that Steamforged had shipped an imbalanced product for the sake of living up to Dark Souls’ reputation for difficulty. The greatest triumph of Dark Souls the Board Game, however, comes in the form of the boss

  • Little Nightmares is everything you may have loved about LittleBigPlanet thrown into a sausage grinder with everything you may have dreaded in Silent Hill. Avoiding their attention while completing each area’s puzzles gives rise to a more complex kind of fear than we’re used to in horror games. Tarsier has described Little Nightmares as a “hide and seek” game rather than a “stealth” game, and while this may sound like developer doublespeak, it reflects the idea that you are neither an infiltrato

  • Elite Dangerous developer Frontier has announced plans to release a patch designed to squash the many bugs introduced into the game with the recent The Commanders update. Yesterday, Frontier took to the Elite Dangerous forum to announce update 2.3.01, due out “early May”. For some reason the 2.3 update gave Packhound launchers infinite ammo and no heat generation when fired by crewmates. While players have welcomed the announcement, many are upset they’re having to wait so long for Elite Dangero

  • Dota 2 received a big matchmaking update yesterday, requiring players to register a phone number if they want to continue playing ranked games and finally, reintroducing the much-requested solo queue. You’ll have until the 4th May to link your account with a unique phone number before these changes come into effect, but after that, it’ll be set in stone. The developer has already trialled a similar idea with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, allowing player to sign up to an optional Prime Matchm

  • Reality Pump’s open-world RPG came out in 2010 and went down well, but things have been quiet on the expansion front – until now. Publisher TopWare Interactive has announced expansion Call of the Tenebrae comes out on 25th May on PC, Mac and Linux. The stakes have never been higher, but our hero won’t face this threat alone. Friends and foes both new and old await you, as you fight to discover the truth behind a powerful secret that will shake the Two Worlds universe to its core. There’s another

Neil Robertson, Australia’s best snooker player and world champion in 2010, has said his form suffered as a result of an addiction to video games. “I’ve had really good application in my practice after dragging myself away from playing too many video games,” Robertson said. “I’ve had really good application in my practice after dragging myself away from playing too many video games,” Robertson said. • After we ran the article I was contacted by a number of people embedded within the UK fighting game community who defended the scene and called for a deeper look. But for the UK fighting game community, it might just be the most important time of the year. Once a year, and for five of the past six years, several hundred fighting game players embark on a pilgrimage to Glasgow to compete at Hypespotting, the crowning achievement for the Scottish fighting game community. • Mario Kart 8’s genius lies in all the little details that add up to a dizzying whole. There’s an elasticity to Mario Kart 8’s handling, one that invites you to ping its vehicles this way and that in order to move them forward ever faster. And so Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Switch’s port of the 2014 Wii U game, inherits a pretty spectacular package. Deluxe offers a complete overhaul that brings Battle Mode up to the standard seen elsewhere in Mario Kart 8. It’s a question we might not know the answe

  • Super Bomberman R gets more levels, accessories and other tweaks today as part of a free update. Four new stages and two new accessories are included, alongside changes to the game’s battle and story modes. It’s a welcome move for Super Bomberman R owners, as the game’s eye-watering £49.99 price point was widely-criticised upon its release alongside the Switch itself. “An effective slice of nostalgia, albeit one that comes at a considerable price,” Martin commented in Eurogamer’s Super Bomberman

  • Technically, Switch pushes Mario Kart 8’s native resolution from 720p on Wii U up to a full 1080p while docked. Clearly, expanding Mario Kart 8’s features is the bigger focus for the development team though. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the definitive edition then, but if you’re expecting an upgrade to the game’s graphics over Wii U, you’re in for a disappointment. For most people it passes by unnoticed, but if you’re sensitive to frame skips at all, it does stick out on Mario Kart 8’s fast corner tur
